Read on to learn about exciting plans for the 2020 NAM Annual Meeting; welcome three new staff members to our team; discover who is the best artist among us, and more. Meanwhile, this week in Cecil's Sssnake Newsss, just when you thought 2020 might be taking a break, snakes are now riding the subway
Get excited! The 2020 NAM Annual Meeting will feature a panel keynote by America's hero and NAM member Dr. Anthony Fauci!

But wait! An even bigger surprise is in store! We can't announce the person who will give the overall keynote just yet, but he or she is one of the world's most influential leaders (seriously). Stay tuned!

The topic of this year's scientific symposium (October 19) is "Confronting Urgent Threats to Human Health & Society: COVID-19 & Climate Change."
A complete agenda, featuring many exciting speakers in addition to Dr. Fauci and our mystery guest, will be available soon. Registration for NAM members opened on August 10, and registration for staff and the general public will open after Labor Day.

Because the meeting is fully virtual this year, the membership office team will require less staff support than usual. But don't get used to it!  We'll need all hands on deck for our delayed anniversary celebration October 16-18 next year!
It's a new staff tsunami! Jennie Eaton has joined us as a permanent employee supporting the Director of Development and Director of Programs as an Administrative/Research Assistant. Se Kim has come on board as Director of Membership and Governance. And last but not least, Asia Williams has joined the Leadership Consortium as a Research Associate. A very wet warm welcome to Jennie, Se, and Asia!

Join us tomorrow at 11:00 am for a very exciting NAM All-Staff Meeting! Joining us from the National Research Council (NRC) will be Greg Symmes, Chief Program Officer, and David May, Chief Communications Officer, to present on the status of the NRC Strategic Plan. Our very own Morgan Kanarek will then share the latest on the NAM Strategic Plan, followed by financial and administrative updates from Adrienne Anzanello.

Friends and fellow delinquents, you may skip your timesheets no longer. Starting August 15, Workday will send you a reminder at 12:00 pm if you have failed to enter your time from the day before. If you still haven't entered your time by 4:00 pm, Workday will send a second reminder, this time including your supervisor.

Just a reminder that, due to COVID-19, nearly all NAM events will be virtual through the end of 2020. There should be very few exceptions. Contact Morgan if you need guidance.

Hot off the presses! Six new papers are available through NAM Perspectives

A brand new human is on his way! Liz Finkelman and her husband, John, are expecting a baby boy at the end of October. Congratulations to the parents to be!

David Chang and Angana Roy are celebrating birthdays this month! Let's hear it for our Leos!
Renowned visual artist Morgan Kanarek was the winner of Pictionary during the July 24 NAM staff happy hour, while legendary brainiac Ayodola Anise took the trophy for Scattergories. Huge thanks to Jessica Covington, Jennie Eaton, and Jarrett Nguyen for organizing a very fun evening!

On August 12, the NAM's Twitter account reached the milestone of 25,000 followers. Congratulations to our social media maestro Talia Lewis for her tireless and talented efforts!

Clockwise below: Mona Rahman's adorable son, Zayd, was born this January; Bruce Block is growing vegetables on his deck in a planter he built from scratch; and Becca Sullenger failed to include the name of her utterly beautiful cat when she submitted this picture. Send guesses about Becca's cat's name to NAMinternal@nas.edu.

In honor of the IOM/NAM's 50th Anniversary, we have compiled a list of 50 areas of impact the IOM/NAM has had on the field of medicine. This month's topic is Vaccines, Vaccination, and Vaccine Safety. You can find this content on Twitter using #50Impacts, or at nam.edu/50Impacts.
Please help us make this newsletter useful and fun! Send feedback and content (announcements, shout-outs, photos, etc.) to NAMinternal@nas.edu.
