Summer is drawing down and many businesses and families are looking toward September wondering what will get back to the normal we knew and what will still be evolving. As we settle into these unsettling times, there is no telling the future and how things will unfold. Yet, we also know that amidst all the uncertainty, we have an abiding surety that God is in control and has us in the palm of his hands. We need to plan, but more importantly, we need to pray and trust. I suggest we take advantage of this last month of summer and a pause in our Lumen activities to examine and renew our trust in the Lord. As we plan, do so from a place of confidence in Christ and from his perspective. The Lumen core value of Faith which has been our focus this year, and particularly that of Confidence in God should underscore all our projections.
Enjoy this brief newsletter which follows up the speaker event last week which featured Dr. Ellison. Many of you offered great follow up to that talk and how we can keep developing a thoughtful response to the problem of racism and inequality.
Thank you. Those who couldn’t make it will find a link to the recording below

On July 29th, we held another National Speaker with Deacon Richard Ellison MD, Understanding Racial Injustice. This talk addressed the current social unrest caused by systemic and ongoing injustices to people of color. Deacon Ellison offered his perspective on growing up as a minority in the US and how he overcame obstacles. His thought provoking talk helped us reflect on how we can become better Christian leaders and influencers with our families, friends and business associates.
Deacon Richard Ellison, MD was ordained to the permanent diaconate at Saint Patrick's Cathedral by Cardinal Dolan on June 2019. He currently serves at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Harlem, New York City, His wife Patricia shares in his ministry.
Here are takeaways from the call recorded by Bill Hirshorn, Rye Chapter.
