The Weekly Connect

Over the past few months world news has mostly been discouraging with the number of COVID19 cases and deaths escalating significantly. Many of us have had challenges and change thrust upon us. Is there anything positive we can look forward to?

From a young age I had a keen interest in soccer but only had a tennis ball which I used to practice dribbling in and around our home. Oh! How I longed to have a soccer ball.

One day my mother asked me to fetch something for her from her bedroom and as I dribbled the tennis ball into her room it rolled under the bed. I bent down to retrieve it and noticed something gift-wrapped under the bed. I could not resist pulling it out and saw it had a card on it which was for me. It read “Happy Birthday Frank - Love Dad and Mom.” I knew exactly what it was and was so excited. It was a soccer ball, but it was still four days to my birthday. Those seemed to be the longest days of my life. I knew the ball was mine, but I had to wait for it.

We anxiously look forward to the day when Jesus will come to take us home. He assured His followers in John 14:1-3: "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."

Thank You Lord that we can look forward to Your soon coming to fetch us.

- Pr Frank Boniface

Data Projectors for Vanuatu

Many of our brothers and sisters from Vanuatu have been stranded in NZ due to Covid19 but are soon to get repatriated by their Government. We have quite a few at Blenheim who are leaving. One of the urgent needs for the churches over there is data projectors. If you or your church have any unused data projectors you would be happy to donate please contact Pr. Gordon Gosset (021 342 657 or ggosset@adventist.org.nz) so they can be taken back by our returning members. Thank you.

Audio Engineer Training Evenings

On Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 26, between 7.00pm and 8.30pm, Stephen Compton will be presenting free evening sessions specifically designed to encourage and up-skill our valuable church audio engineers. There is a limited entry of 50 people due to space in the School of Music Arts Centre Recital Room in Hereford Street, Christchurch, so registration through an email will secure a spot. The sessions will be as interactive as they can be, and each attendee will receive a free hearing management handbook.

Sabbath School Offerings

Advance the gospel commission with your Sabbath School offering

During these uncertain and complex times, the gospel advancement is needed more than ever to the dark places of the world and its big cities. Sabbath School offerings are used to spread the Gospel in the 10-40 window (not General Conference office operating costs), pay missionaries, fund Adventist World Radio and Hope Channel. Also, Sabbath School offerings fund efforts to reach big cities.

Discipleship equipping

Not Ashamed: THRIVE

THRIVE is the second series for the new online “Not Ashamed”
discipleship equipping resource. This series will celebrate the life of thriving we have in Christ, identify the obstacles that can get in the way of living out that life, and explore how God helps us overcome those obstacles.

The latest “Not Ashamed: THRIVE” episode is premiered live on Facebook each Friday night at 7:30pm. All current episodes, along with previous episodes (and the entire “Not Ashamed: Discovery Bible Reading” series), can be found at our Facebook page.

This is a free 40-week online course that will enable you to delve into prophecy for yourself.

An in-depth study of the Book of Revelation from the perspective of its structure and the relationship of its various parts to each other, this course will equip you with the tools to understand the text of Revelation. Each topic in this series is designed to lay foundations for the topics that follow. Through the series the meaning of Revelation will be progressively revealed.
