August 2020 Newsletter
Dear members and subscribers,
Extreme times call for fresh ideas, and Music Victoria is calling on you – the music industry – to help. Music Victoria is seeking expressions of interest from Victorian music industry experts with entrepreneurial flair and strategic vision to join a voluntary panel to advise Music Victoria (including the VMDO), other sector bodies and the government in assisting in navigating a way out of the COVID-19 crisis. See more details here.
We are also calling on the industry to nominate candidates for the Outstanding Woman in Music Award which recognises the achievements of not only musicians but also women behind the scenes, such as industry professionals, management and crew, as voted by the Music Victoria Board.
Submit via this form by 5pm, Monday 31 August.
In other news, Music Victoria is also thrilled to announce the appointment of Kerry Kennell (pictured below) to its board of directors. Kerry, who is a proud Torres Strait island woman from the eastern islands Ugar and Erub, brings valuable legal, business, strategic, management, industry and government experience to the board. The announcement comes in the same month that Music Victoria and the Peak Body for First Nations Music in Victoria, Songlines Music Aboriginal Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding committing to work closely and partner on regular events. Catch up on these announcements here.
We encourage music venues of Victoria to apply for Live Music Australia funding through the Australian Government's Office for The Arts. Grants of up to $100,000 are now available to assist small to medium venues, to support quality original Australian live music, staged by professionally operated venues. Earlier this week, we hosted an information session to demystify the grant application process, which you can watch back here. Applications close 13 Sept.
And please get behind Triple R this week by signing up and donating during its annual Radiothon. The Music Victoria Awards Hall of Fame inductee and presenting partner, which supports so many Victorian musicians, has lost a huge amount of advertising revenue since March please do what you can to support them.
