PAVED Arts Partial Re-Opening: September 8th

Beginning September 8th, PAVED Arts will partially re-open to the general public. Access to the Production Centre will be offered by appointment only, starting September 8th. Appointments must be confirmed by staff either verbally/on the phone or written/by email, with a minimum of 24 hours advance notice. Adherence to safety protocols designated for onsite production activities must be observed at all times while on the premises. To make an appointment in the production centre, please contact technical@pavedarts.ca. To book an equipment rental, contact production@pavedarts.ca

PAVED Arts Gallery programming has mostly been rescheduled for later in 2021, with the exception of special commissions to be staged using digital means. On-site gallery presentations will commence with locally generated projects in order to avoid air travel. PAVED Arts will not host opening receptions or public gatherings until further notice. The first public exhibition, a display generated by the ISO-Lation Time Capsule project, will be available for viewing by appointment only in the second week of October. A telephone number will be available in the front foyer and arrangements can be made upon visiting the centre. As with the production centre, adherence to the safety protocols designated for onsite activities must be observed at all times while on the premises.

In the meantime, our PAVED Arts At Home response to the COVID-19 pandemic will continue into the foreseeable future with commissioned works hosted by AKA artist-run's tofeelclose platform, billboard projects, online screenings and workshops, further episodes of "Pip's Production Corner," and more. Our updated Production Centre & Office/Gallery Hours will be Tuesday to Friday, 12-6pm.

This announcement is subject to ongoing revision as the situation develops.

We look forward to seeing you again!

National Billboard Exchange

Janet Wang / Ports of Entry

AKA/PAVED Billboard Space at 424 20th Street West
Co-presented by AKA artist-run, Hamilton Artists Inc., and PAVED Arts
July through August 2020

Based on research of Chinese-Canadian settler histories and visual storytelling, artist Janet Wang has created the panoramic digital work, Ports of Entry. Looking at the speculative nature of migration; the patterns found in the histories of labour, movement and settling, Wang's works explores the evidence of who has privilege, and who does not. Shorelines represent a limit that is constantly in flux, evolving and shifting in response to industry and development.  This installation is part of a national billboard exchange between Hamilton Artists Inc., AKA Artist-run, and PAVED Arts.

Every Monday Night, 7-9pm, Aug & Sept
Open to youth ages 13-25
FREE, Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87437206680

After 9 weeks, we are sad to see our Cypher Connect summer youth camp come to an official close! Thank you so much to Zoe Slusar, aka Zhe the Free, Betty Pewapsconias, Andrea Cessna, and Chokecherry Studios for partnering and helping to facilitate. Our participants created some beautiful spoken word and rap/hip-hop, which we hope to record in our Production Centre Audio Suite as part of our new Mic Drop program coming this Fall and Winter.  Until then, we've decided to keep the momentum going and continue Cypher Connect on a slightly smaller scale through August and September!

Thank you to Community Initiatives Fund for their support of this program.
