NOTICE: QUALIFIERS 2020

Due to the current situation with the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown, the MAASA National Committee have unfortunately had to take the decision to cancel all further MAASA qualifiers and competitions for the rest of 2020. This also means that National team selection for 2020 will not be possible.

MAASA is however committed to keeping the sport active and we have therefore designed monthly online competitions and challenges since the start of lockdown, including the remote postal matches in which many of you have already participated. We will continue to organize these postal matches for the remainder of 2020.

We would like to encourage everyone to participate in communications, keep sharing experiences and training tips and never stop shooting arrows!

Stay safe and healthy, and keep riding!

NORTH WEST NEWS
We would like to congratulate the North West Province on the election of their formal Mounted Archery Association committee:

President:  Vicky van Zyl
Vice President:  Zuber Master
Treasurer:  Naeema Grabu
Secretary:  Elizma du Toit
RESULTS: ONLINE POSTAL MATCH #2
The MAASA Online July Postal Match took the form of two challenges, namely the Lunging Ring 2 challenge and Charging Into Battle - Arena Work.

Thank you to all who participated, please feel free to submit ideas for future postal matches.

Congratulations to the winners of each category, they have received vouchers for 1 x free entry into the next MAASA Online Postal Match.

The August Postal match will be communicated shortly, so keep an eye on our social media platforms for more information.

The results are as follows::
ANNOUNCEMENT: IHAA GRAND PRIX
The International Horseback Archery Alliance (IHAA) is hosting an international World Grand Prix competition in the form of a virtual postal match, and South Africa is one of the countries to enter a team for this competition.

The competition will consist of the following events:
6 x runs of the new IHAA Tower 90 track
6 x runs of the new Raid 233 track (the Korean 233 event)
4 x runs of the new IHAA Skirmish track

A total of 32 countries across 4 continents have entered for this event, which is to be held over the next 16 weeks.

With the unique challenges we face in South Africa at the moment with the lockdown situation, MAASA applied for (and was granted) permission from SAEF and IHAA to hold all three stages in one day, which will take place in October.

By following our stringent selection criteria for overseas competitions, MAASA has selected a South African team to compete in this IHAA GP.  The 9 current top ranking riders were issued invitations to this event, and in instances where these riders were not available or unable to participate, the invitation was extended to the next highest ranked rider.

MAASA is proud to announce Team SA!
MAASA would like to wish all these riders the best of luck and safe riding as they prepare for this challenge!  We look forward to seeing them all in action.
In accordance with government and SAEF directives, no spectators will be allowed at this event; however we will keep everyone updated via our social media platforms, where everyone will be able to follow the competition, view live stream videos of the action, and see the scores that our team submits.
SA TRACK DESIGN
Time to put on your creative thinking caps!

MAASA would like to submit a unique South African track design to IHAA (International Horse Archery Alliance) for consideration as one of their international tracks.

If you have an idea for a track which is challenging, on a par with existing international tracks and which has a distinctly South African theme, here is your chance to go down in history.

The following criteria will be required for submissions:
  • Track Name - (The word South African or SA should be part of the track name.  You are welcome to make your name/surname part of the track name e.g. The South African Kruger Track)
  • Track length -  (this needs to be achievable on the tracks we currently have in use, i.e. 90m)
  • Targets -  Number of, design, scoring, distance, height, etc.
  • Track time and allocation of speed points/penalty points (keeping safety in mind)
  • Detailed drawing of the track indicating track length, target distances, angles, start and end points etc.
  • Detailed description of the track, rules, scoring, procedure etc.

For reference please refer to the following listed tracks already in existence as listed on the IHAA site:
https://www.horsebackarchery.info/coursedatabase

Please submit your ideas to president@mountedarcheryassociation.co.za by no later than
30th September 2020.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!
SANESA NEWS
In response to our question regarding the rest of the 2020 SANESA competitive year, the SANESA National office informed us that no definite decision has been taken regarding future qualifiers and/or National Championships as yet.  The reason for this is that SANESA is a school sport, and therefore the decision regarding the resumption / completion of qualifiers and the decision to host National Championships based on reduced qualifiers, is dependent on the authority of the Department of Education. As things stand now, only the academic year is currently continuing, and no sporting or cultural events are allowed to take place.

While we don't forsee that this will change, we will continue to monitor events with SANESA, and inform our SANESA riders of any changes or announcements.

Should you have any questions, kindly contact Diane Horn via email (diane@captivatinglife.co.za).
