Welcome to our August newsletter!

Welcome to our August Newsletter! I hope you are all well and safe. We here at OTR Bristol are using the quieter summer months to improve the pool of fundraising assets available on our website. The fundraising areas of our website have been updated so please check them out and let us know what else you would like to see there.

We have now joined the Fundraising Regulator, so you will see their logo appearing on our website and other communication materials. We are doing our best to educate our supporters on the best ethical practices of fundraising, so please do check the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Practice for reference. You can also read their recent guidance on fundraising in the times of pandemic here and click on the image below to watch a short video about the Code of Practice.

OTR Summer Challenge

I would also like to remind you about our Summer Challenge. If you are keeping active and wish to support our work, all you need to do is join our Stava group and join our OTR Summer Challenge here.

Please remember that you don't need to fundraise to join our Strava community - if you like to cycle, walk, exercise, do yoga - feel free to connect with our staff and supporters there.

Thank you for being for your continuous support and for helping us help young people's mental health.

Stay safe. Stay well. Stay connected.

...the fantastic Bristol Five for their lovely gaming live stream event which has raised so far £1,051 for us. We are so inspired by young people promoting conversations about mental health, enjoying their passions and making a real difference to the lives of their peers. Thank you so much!
This month we are hosting a series of Diffusion webinars, so if you wish to find out more about the project and learn useful mental health skills, check it out and register here

We run a variety of services for professionals to give people the confidence, knowledge and skills to improve mental health.

We draw on 50 years’ experience of supporting young people and a unique take on mental health to offer engaging, relevant and practical training. This might be of particular interest for those working with young people, but we believe that the lessons we’ve learned apply across the board. Our entire offer can be tailored to your specific needs and delivered in your setting.

We want to respond to the needs of our community, and specifically the young people within them. If there’s an area that you feel you need help with, but can’t see it here, get in touch. As an agile and creative team, we relish having new challenges and would love to see how we can help you!

If you would like to explore how we can help you, please contact diffusion@otrbristol.org.uk

This month we are featuring our lovely Trustee, Mandy Bancroft, who is celebrating her last year of work by raising funds for us. Thank you so much, Mandy!

"I have worked in the area of mental health for all of my working life, and as I head into my last year of working, I wanted to do something to mark the occasion! Being in lockdown made me realise how much I miss my friends and how important they are for my mental health.

So one eve when I could not sleep I looked on Facebook and realised I had 365 friends (it just popped up!) it got me thinking! Could I do a virtual coffee/catch up with everyone on my Facebook friends and for every meeting I would put a £1 in the pot each day, therefore at the end of the year there would be £365 to celebrate my career and thank OTR for having me as their chair of trustees!

For each coffee, my friends have been asked to match that £1, apparently they are up for it and think its a great idea! As I do this, I will keep a diary and ask them two questions: what should I do in retirement and what should I do to look after myself! I thought it would be a bit of fun, raise some money and give me something to celebrate at the end of the year!"
