Dear Friend,

My colleagues and I on the Joint Budget Committee will be back at the Capitol next Tuesday, August 11th for a meeting with the Governor's office and the Executive Committee. We will be discussing the disaster response to COVID-19 as well as the emergency related executive orders that have been imposed to address the crisis.

I'm excited to be back and have this important meeting, but what is most important is making sure your questions are being answered.

I want to hear from you: What would you like me to ask the Governor?
Send me your questions!
As always, it is an incredible honor to represent Pueblo and I look forward to hearing from our community.

Free COVID-19 Testing continues in August at the Colorado State Fairgrounds

Pueblo County’s free COVID-19 drive-thru testing at the Colorado State Fairgrounds will continue at the Colorado State Fairgrounds in August. Testing is every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no limit to the number of people who can be tested per day.

Currently, the following individuals can be tested for COVID-19 at Pueblo’s COVID-19 Drive-Thru Testing:
  • Any individual who is symptomatic (symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headaches, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea).
  • Anyone over the age of 65 (symptomatic or asymptomatic)
  • African American, Latino, American Indian Tribes (symptomatic or asymptomatic)
  • Anyone who had contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19
  • Health care workers and first responders (symptomatic or asymptomatic)
  • Individuals five years and older and those with access and functional needs, including adults, may be tested by a caregiver or another adult
  • Attended a large gathering or protest
The testing site at the Colorado State Fairgrounds (enter through Gate 4 off Mesa Avenue and Gaylord Avenue) is drive-thru only and individuals must be inside an enclosed vehicle for safety. No walk-ups or motorcycles are allowed through the testing site. The site is open to neighboring counties. No physician order is required, and all testing is free.

Learn the Ins and Outs of the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act

Attention women-owned small businesses! The Equal Pay for Equal Work Act that was signed into law at WFCO’s office in 2019 will go into effect in January 2021. This will bring an unprecedented opportunity to Colorado to help close the gender pay gap, which still averages 86 cents on the dollar for all full-time, year-round workers 16 and older. The pay gap is significantly wider when comparing the salaries of women of color with white males, the highest earners.

Members of the Colorado Women’s Bar Association (CWBA) will join WFCO for a webinar to help you learn the ins and outs of the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Statutory compliance will be the featured topic, and presenters will touch upon conducting wage audits, evaluating wages, transparency in pay and employment opportunities, and more. Don’t miss your chance to prepare for this new law.

Note: Specific legal advice will not be provided, but there will be a Q&A with legal experts.
