Back to Campus

The “starting pistol” fires and the race is off.  August is like the beginning of an exciting race for many Cru staff and students.  Teams are gathering to pray, plan and begin executing a critical season of sowing the Gospel and reaping a harvest of growing disciples.

What is the landscape like?

There’s a lot of uncertainty: Economic instability and COVID-19 have contributed significantly to stress and isolation. Many schools, like the U of MN, are resuming in-person instruction. Yet, this school year is filled with many uncertainties about how much face-to-face activity should happen.

There’s a lot of hurt: Unresolved racial tensions are a driving force for fear and divisions.  Many young people are “do justice” as defined by moral relativism, rather than by the Word of God.

There’s a lot of evil: The backlash against law enforcement after George Floyd’s death continues to restrict the availability and effectiveness of those who serve our communities.  As a result, there is little, to no accountability which is increasing lawlessness that harms many vulnerable people.

And...God is at Work!

"Many of my friends are asking about God for the first time, and they actually asked me to start a Bible study with them."  - a freshman student

“With all the uncertainty of life lately, many of my friends who don’t know what they believe in regards to Christ, are dealing with fear and anxiety.  One of them is starting to pray for the first time.  I pray that God will give me the courage and words to help these friends, and point them to Christ.”

There’s a lot of openness:  When the places people have put their hope gets shaken, they look for something or someone else to put their hope in.  There’s no time like now to preach the Word of God!
He will be the sure foundation for your times...Isaiah 33:6
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  Matthew 7:24

There’s a lot of opportunity!  Young people may think they need safety as they return to campus.  Some feel they need their voice to be heard or economic stability.  But, primarily we all need Jesus!  If Jesus provides spiritual life to people who were dead in sin, He will provide the resources, the healing and relationships people need during this time of crisis.
On August 6, a back-to-campus virtual event will inspire and equip college students across the country to pursue Jesus and engage their campus with the Gospel!

Pray for us:

Our neighborhood continues to face chaos, but God is at work as His word reaches people.

An encampment with almost 50 tents recently sprung up on an empty lot on our block. Within the last month, crime and violence have skyrocketed. Without much accountability from law enforcement, our neighbors have been striving to support one another, give hope & keep peace.
A board placed in our yard is used to post messages from God’s word which He places on my heart for our neighborhood.

How can we pray for you?
