Ourdoor Communion Service -  Wednesday August 5th (tomorrow) at 9:00am on the Playground.  We are going ahead as scheduled with our service.  Traffic lights in the vicinity of the church appear to be operational.   Please be careful and only come if you can do so safely!

VBS - Rachel has sent out an e-mail to families with activities and videos for the second day of our virtual VBS.  Videos are linked below.

Friends, all appears well at the church following the storm - we appear to have lost just a couple shingles, but everything looks good throughout the interior.    I hope and pray that all is well at your home as well - and that you either have electricity or soon soon will!
Devotion for Tuesday, August 4th

by Mebane B.
I’m a big fan of children’s books.  My children are grown, and there are no little people in my house.  But I like to read them, because there are messages for me, clearly and simply laid out.  And there are beautiful pictures.  Children’s books have a way to speak truth in simple meaningful stories.

One of my favorite books when I was growing up was Wait Till the Moon is Full by Margaret Wise Brown.  My copy of this book that I still have, almost 60 years later, is held together by scotch tape that has yellowed and crackles when you turn the pages.  It’s about a little baby raccoon’s longing and waiting to go out into the night with his friends – other raccoons, bunnies and owls.  He patiently waits for the moon to change from a skinny curve like a “raccoon’s whisker” to a full moon when his mother will allow him outside to play.  He continually asks his mother, “Can I go out now?” and the mother raccoon patiently urges, “Wait till the moon is full.”  So the little raccoon waits and wonders, while the moon gets bigger and bigger and bigger.  At last, on a very special evening, the moon is finally full, and he goes outside to play with all the other animals.
Just like that little raccoon, we are waiting.  We wait for it to be safe to go back out and be with our friends, eat meals together, and hug, kiss and touch our loved ones.  And just like that little raccoon, we are growing and changing through this experience to make us different, stronger people.  Who are you calling on to change you?  In what way are you growing and changing?  Upon whom do you rely to give you courage and strength?  How do you muster your patience through this time?

I like to think about God like the mother raccoon in this story who holds us and comforts us, even as we ask, over and over again, is it safe to go out now?  When will things be normal again?  It doesn’t mean things will be back to normal any sooner, or that we will have the answer.  Still we are held and rocked by God who comforts us, who doesn’t get frustrated with us for asking, but just gives us the answer, “when it’s safe.”  I’m here and will be here always.  You can always crawl in my lap and I’ll comfort you.

Wait.  Wait.  Some day it will be safe to go back out.  And in the meantime, rely on God to provide the comfort you need to put one foot in front of the other.

Mebane

Worship at WPPC - July 22nd
August Worship with WPPC:

Wednesday, August 5th at 9am -  Outdoor, In-Person Communion Service on Playground at WPPC
Wednesday, August 12th at 7pm -  Outdoor, In-Person Service at WPPC
Wednesday, August 26th at 7pm - Zoom (Virtual) Communion Service

Our evening outdoor services will meet in the parking lot.

Our morning outdoor communion service will meet on the playground (to take advantage of mourning shade).   In order to minimize contact, we will have individually packaged juice & wafer cups that participants will pick up as they gather.

Please remember the following about our outdoor, in-person worship gatherings.
  • Wearing of face masks at the service is required by our Session.  If you need a mask, we will have some available.  Please remember, wearing masks is about protecting the health of and caring for other people around you.
  • Please bring your own folding chair (again, we will have a few available)
  • Several parking spaces will be reserved for those who wish to take part in the service from their cars.
  • Please practice social distancing - areas for each household to sit will be marked on the ground.
  • Though we will not be singing as a congregation, participants are encouraged to bring a ukulele, guitar, drum, or other instrument to play along with the music.
  • In the event that rain is very likely, we will reschedule for the following day.

Friends, that our main effort will continue to be the digital service for Sunday morning.  However, our Worship Commission, with the concurrence of our Session, wanted to offer in-person, outdoor worship gatherings.

Please note, while we hope to make things as safe as possible (and need your help in doing that), in this time of COVID, any gathering involves some amount of risk.  PLEASE err on the side of caution when deciding whether or not this is an appropriate activity for yourself or the people in your household.
"All Things Bright and Beautiful"

You don't have to be a member of our Chancel Choir to participate!  Just record yourself singing!  All are welcome!

How to participate:

1.  Watch this video of Ed, Rachel, and Sharon singing.
"All Things Bright and Beautiful" - August Project Core Track
2.   Download the (UPDTATED) copy of the song:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xUWXdxGEIvheRWsMVq1msNwMVVhCGTEv/view?usp=sharing

3.  Make a recording of you singing this song in sync with Ed, Rachel, and Sharon

Sing any part!

To record in sync with Ed, Sharon, and Rachel, you will need two devices:
  1. One phone, tablet, or computer to listen to the song video as you play along
  2. and a second camera/phone/tablet to record the video of you singing.
(PLEASE wear headphones while recording.  This makes it much more likely that  you will be in sync and makes the editing process easier.)

4.  Then share the file with Emile by Google Drive, Drop Box or another file-sharing service.  (The video will be too large to text or e-mail.  If you need help, please ask!)

The deadline to send me a video will be Monday, August 24th at 5pm.   After that I will begin editing the video together - and it is really difficult add a late video after I've begun work.

5.  Call or text Emile to make sure I got the video.  (Sometimes file transfers don't work the first time - especially if you've not sent a file to me before.  I REALLY don't want to accidentally leave out someone who recorded a song!)

Thank you all!  The more voices the better!
