Dear Parents and Guardians,

I pray that you are all healthy and enjoying this beautiful weather.  I have enjoyed getting to know many Holy Cross families over the phone and via email during this past week and am excited to get to meet and know each and every family over the next few months, some in person (outside and at a distance) and others virtually.  Though this is an extremely irregular start to the school year, I have already begun to count multiple blessings and am constantly thanking the Holy Spirit for the many ways in which He is already moving within our Holy Cross community!

As you know, Holy Cross will open for in-person instruction in only a few weeks.  However, if your family feels the need to consider virtual learning, please feel free to email me at aborjas@holycrosscrusaders.org and I will then send you an explanation of our virtual learning agreement. If you do decide to move forward with eLearning please let us know by no later than August 12th to allow our teachers time to prepare materials and lessons.

Q: When is the first day of school for students coming in-person?
A:
As we had mentioned before, students will be grouped in 2 groups, A and B. Group A Student Orientation will take place on Thursday, August 27th and Group B Student Orientation will take place on Friday, August 28th. Both of these are full days of school. All students will be in-person learning on Monday August 31st. Please find our annual calendar later in this newsletter for other important dates.

Q. When is the last day to purchase school supplies?
A. All payments are due by Friday, August 28th. Please remember one supply kit per child, per grade. Just a reminder the cost per kit, per student is:
$35 for PK, K, 1st, 2nd grade
$50 for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade
$60 for 6th, 7th and 8th grade

Q: What should I do with the computers and textbooks we were given?
A:
Please return them by August 12th. There is a convenient drop-off in our school office vestibule. Please make sure you label your items with your child’s name and grade.

Have a great week!

5 de agosto de 2020

Queridos padres y guardianes,

$ 35 para PK, K, 1, 2 grado
$ 50 para 3, 4 y 5 grado
$ 60 para 6, 7 y 8 grado

As I mentioned in my pastor’s column two weeks ago, the administration of our school has been working diligently all summer to prepare for the beginning of the new school year at the end of August. Annie Borjas, our new principal, introduces a recent letter to the parents of our school children with a rich image that she used in a Zoom meeting with all the teachers, aides and staff we recently had stating, “I suspect that many of you, like me, might feel as if we are navigating a storm. Being tossed around at sea can be frightening but let’s not forget that Jesus is in the boat with us! In the Gospel of Mark (Mk 4:35-41), we are reminded that Jesus, too, was tossed about at sea. His disciples pleaded for him to wake up, and, upon waking, Jesus said these calming words, “Peace...Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?”

This past week all the teachers and teacher aides participated in nearly 30 hours of Responsive Classroom training, a student-centered, social and emotional learning approach that helps nourish classroom community and gives students opportunities to build meaningful and respectful relationships with one another.  As Annie explained in her letter, the teachers are excited about adding these techniques and resources to their classrooms this coming year

Annie concludes her letter assuring the parents “that Holy Cross serves as a safe place both physically and emotionally for all of our students, a place where health protocols are followed and children’s hearts and souls are being nourished, where students learn to love and be loved in a time of so much uncertainty. This is our anchor! Jesus is in our boat!” We are so fortunate to have a new principal who, like Angie Budzinski, is a person of deep faith and trust in God’s divine providence.  Our school is definitely in good hands with Annie at the helm of the boat.
