NEWS TO KNOW
Dear Advantage Valley Partner,

Advantage Valley sees a silver lining during the COVID 19 Pandemic - an entrepreneurial surge!

Technology and remote meeting capability is allowing more and more West Virginians to build skills online during the public health crisis - and many are starting businesses. The pandemic sent people home to work, required people to use their computers in new ways to communicate and to learn. Access to the internet, coupled with a massive influx of ready-to-watch tutorials, webinars and valuable resources, delivered right into people’s living rooms, allows more West Virginians than ever in to gain acquirable skills, apprenticeship training, and vital business start up and other assistance.

We estimate serving serving 3 - 5 times more West Virginians joining our FASTER WV webinars than we expected to serve in person. After promoting programming to budding cottage food entrepreneurs in our 7-county region, we served 89 West Virginians from 24 counties! Hoping to engage aspiring entrepreneurs in river and outdoor recreation, we served 68 West Virginians from 18 counties! Three FASTER WV Webinars have reached 324 West Virginians, through downloads, recordings and live webinars viewed! The COVID-19 pandemic may have disrupted the WV economy in a myriad of ways, but not all with negative results.

"Even during a pandemic, opportunities for business growth exist," Secretary of State Mac Warner said. Warner says 1,026 new WV businesses registered in June 2020.

Stay safe and well!

Sincerely,
Terrell Ellis, Executive Director
