(A Little Bit of ) Freedom!

Last week the government of Chile announced a plan called “Paso a Paso” or “Step by Step” to safely reopen the country from quarantine.  On July 28, our town of Ñuñoa along with four others in the Santiago Metro Region moved to “Step Two,” which allows us to leave our homes Monday through Friday between 5AM and 10PM without a government pass.  Saturdays and Sundays we go back into quarantine and would need a pass to go out.

After 134 days of strict stay-at-home orders, we ventured out of our apartment as a family for the first time.  It was strange and wonderful to be out for the hour or so just walking around and seeing ‘life’ again.  (See pictures above and below).  Thank you for praying for us during the quarantine and for reaching out to make sure we were okay.  We truly appreciate it!

Would you pray that residents in our community respect social distancing and mask-wearing requirements so we can continue on to the next step of the government’s plan?

Moving to the Coast

You’ll likely recall that we had hoped to move to the Viña del Mar area by July.  Well, the move didn’t happen.  So when can we move?  This is indeed THE question. We wish we had a definitive answer for you and for us.  Our team leaders are advising us to stay put in our current apartment and wait until things stabilize to avoid any unseen problems that could arise due to the COVID-19 situation.  We are in agreement, even if the waiting is getting more difficult.  Would you pray for the Lord to give us contentment in this season?

Gospel Relationships in Quarantine

We’ve seen God at work even in our quarantine.  He has used us in this unexpected time to build relationships that would not have happened without the quarantine.  For example, we learned in March that we needed to change how we buy groceries because us going to the store without a car was just not going to work.  Danielle found a small family owned “mini” market that began delivery service.  They not only have become our primary supplier of groceries but Danielle has begun a casual relationship with the owner María Jesús.  Would you pray for María Jesús and others in our building and community with whom we interact that we would clearly show the love of Christ to them?
