We are delighted to bring you news of a very special opening, more re-openings and some summer events!

Dove Cottage, the Grasmere home of William and Dorothy Wordsworth opens after a major transformation. The authentic restoration transforms the visitor experience with newly animated spaces around the poet’s much-loved Lake District home. A newly commissioned introductory film is shown prior to visiting the cottage’s interiors and garden, enabling visitors to step back in time to get a feeling of daily life as the Wordsworth’s would have known in 1800 and experience a humble home where extraordinary writing and thinking took place.

Open daily from 15 August. Pre-booking is essential: www.wordsworth.org.uk

Rydal Mount, where the Wordsworth family lived after moving from Grasmere, re-opens. The house will be open on selected dates through August and September. Pre-booking is essential www.rydalmount.co.uk

We’ve all heard of fairies, from Tinker Bell to the tooth fairy, but have you heard about the ‘faerie’? Well, at Brockhole they’ve got more than a few! Their Woodland Faerie Trail invites you to explore previously unseen woodland, where, hidden amongst some of the largest and most ancient trees of their kind in the Lake District, tucked amid the dense ferns and moss-covered rocks, are over fifty faerie houses and doors. The faeries themselves may be very shy and unlikely to make an appearance, but you can spend a wonder-filled time looking at their beautiful homes in the most magical of woodland settings.

Windermere Jetty Museum is one of eight venues nationwide chosen to host BBC One’s Antiques Roadshow with Fiona Bruce and her team of experts this summer.

Viewers are being asked to contact Antiques Roadshow about their objects as soon as possible so the team can start planning these really special shows. Details are on the website (www.bbc.co.uk/antiquesroadshow) where you can use the ‘Share Your Story’ form to fill out details of your objects.

Rhian Harris, CEO of Lakeland Arts, said: “We are delighted that Windermere Jetty Museum will still be able to host the BBC Antiques Roadshow this year and are looking forward to welcoming the experts to site. It’s even more of a golden ticket opportunity to attend this year, with “entry by antique” only, and we are looking forward to discovering a host of local and regional stories on the shores of Windermere”.
