Hope you are all well. I can't believe it's August. Some in-person activities are starting up again, even co-sharing spaces are opening up for their members. I'll keep you up-to-date of events of interest (in-person and virtual) each month. If I'm missing out on anything, let me know.

This is a great segue to an initiative referred by a friend from a women in tech whatsapp group I'm in, they provide online dancing classes promoting physical and mental health with diverse instructors, they are planning in-person classes again, so check then out via https://www.godanceforchange.com/linktree/ -  a good way to shoo away that covid-19 WFH isolation.

And don't forget the wear your mask when out and about, and wash your hands.

🧵Speaking of masks, if you want to make your own masks, do try and make one, even hand-stitching without need of sewing machine. It's worth it and level up on sewing skills is always good to have! Here's my past experience with it. However I did find a new pattern for a more summer friendly to breath mask. See my video of my attempt as a newbie sewer.

🛠Are you working on a project? Share it with us, I'm happy to have you as a guest blog. Drop me an email at contact@codinggrace.com.

😓BTW, I've started to notice that Irish events listings by organisers on meetup and eventbrite are getting non-Irish events mixed in, so shifting through them takes a wee bit more time. But I hope the curated list of mainly Irish Tech and Diversity in Tech events we have in our monthly newsletter (and our live blog) is of use to you until we figure out how/when we can run our own workshops.
This month, I've been making podcasts for Dublin Maker, I've never made one before but I have experienced editing audio. Distribution platforms was a whole new thing for me, I've picked Buzzsprout as our distributer, definitely the easier approach.

As I've been doing a lot of podcast recordings during the day as well as speaking live at events and hosting live streams (e.g. PyLadies Dublin), my other half prompted me to make an ON AIR sign to let him know when I'm recording. As we have various components that are not used, so I used Pimoroni's Ubercorn LED panel with Pi Zero. I've wrote the 1st part of the project here: https://dev.to/whykay/using-pimoroni-ubercorn-and-pi-zero-for-my-on-air-sign-1l5g
The big one in July was EuroPython which was held online, although I ended up attending a few talks on Friday. I have to give a huge shout out and round of applause to the EuroPython 2020 Online team, all volunteers, for running a very smooth conference held on Discord and talks given via Zoom. 👏👏👏
Keep an eye out on their Youtube channel for this year's talks. Looking forward to having them in Dublin in 2021, and hope we have a handle on this pandemic by then.

Finally, I also was on then panel as part of Science Gallery's Science Learning webinar: Equity, Access & Coronavirus with my Maker Advocate hat on.
🌈 Your Support 🌈

🤔We are still interested in finding out what you are interesting in learning, especially now that we are indoors and would be a great opportunity to learn new skills.
What do you want us to run?
🤲We mentioned this in our newsletter last month. We want to try and make Coding Grace sustainable, our huge expense is our accountant each year. So we are trying out Open Collective and we are open to donations from individuals and corporates. We are not-for-profit and it's wholly volunteer-based running it.

📍Where am I this month?
I'm not going anywhere, still WFH. I'll still be running virtual PyLadies Dublin meetups, and the live-stream went well last time.
📖READ, 🎦WATCH, 🎧LISTEN

Coding Grace's DEV ProfileWe are also on dev.to, it's a platform for devs to post what they are up to, and we are cross-posting to it ourselves. We are open to folks share articles with us, and if you are also on the platform, please follow us. If you want to contribute, I will send you the key to join us.
Any enquiries (incl. CFPs, announcements, etc), you can drop me an email at contact@codinggrace.com.
Finally, I hope everyone stay healthy and safe. #WearFaceMasks and #WashYourHands is ever so important right now, let's get through this together. 😷🧼

Thanks,

/// Vicky
