In this novel, full of surprises from the New York Times bestselling author of WE WERE LIARS and GENUINE FRAUD, E. Lockhart ups the ante with an inventive and romantic story about human connection, forgiveness, self-discovery, and possibility.

When Adelaide Buchman's younger brother succumbs to a drug overdose, she saves his life. In the aftermath, looking for distraction, she becomes a stylish, bright charmer who blows off school and falls madly in love - even though her heart is shattered.

Ruth David was growing up in a small village in Germany when Adolf Hitler rose to power in the 1930s. Under the Nazi Party, Jewish families like Ruth's experienced rising anti-Semitic restrictions and attacks.

Just going to school became dangerous. By November 1938, anti-Semitism erupted into Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, and unleashed a wave of violence and forced arrests. Days later, desperate volunteers sprang into action to organize the Kindertransport, a rescue effort to bring Jewish children to England. Young people like Ruth David had to say good-bye to their families, unsure if they'd ever be reunited.

Blast from the Past
This month's "Blast From the Past" photo shows the original entrance before the addition was added in the 1960s. Can anyone date the front end of the car on the left? Also pictured is the globe street lights that marked the entrance steps!
Donation to CAP Program

In March, the library closed the Makerspace due to COVID-19. For health and safety reasons, we cannot open the Makerspace to the public yet. A part of our Makerspace programming was a partnership with 5 Loaves & 2 Ministry to provide snacks to kids after school and during the summer.

We didn't want this wonderful donation to go to waste, so we delivered all the snacks we couldn't use in the Makerspace to the Child Advocacy Program of Chautauqua County. Find out more about CAP and the critical work they do at www.capjustice.org/

Window Update!

If you have visited the Prendergast Library or drove by recently, you might have seen some construction outside the building. The windows facing 6th Street are getting an upgrade! The installation of new energy-efficient windows is funded by a New York State Library Construction Grant and matching grants from The Lenna Foundation and the Carnahan-Jackson Foundation. Thank you!
