Behind the Scenes with John Colombo

Welcome back, John! What were you doing behind the scenes while the building was closed?
I was taking library phone calls from home. I helped answer different questions from our patrons. From inside the closed building, I watered plants, processed the mail, and returned books.

What have you missed the most?
Serving the public in person and working with my wonderful co-workers.

What did working from home teach you?
That it could still be a rewarding experience.

What are you looking forward to now that the building is back open?
Just getting back to to a normal routine!

The New Jersey State Library has announced the availability of more than 4,000 comics, graphic novels, and children’s materials as part of an innovative program to make this content free to all residents of New Jersey throughout the summer.

All e-books are available without wait-list until August 31.

No Friends Book Sale This Year

The Friends Book Sale is our main fundraising event for the Library each year. But the 2020 sale had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 crisis. Due to the same crisis, providing support for the South Orange Public Library is more critical than ever.

You Can Help

Since we can’t hold the book sale this year, we need your donation to help raise $10,000 for Library programs and books in 2020-2021.

Your donation will help the Friends of the South Orange Public Library fund new books, the film series, the children’s summer reading program, and museum passes, among other Library programs and activities, responsive to the community’s current needs.

Thank you for supporting your Libraryand your community!
