Closed Doors, Open Hands, Moving forward

Closed Door on Plan A
Over the past few months in Florida, we've been eagerly awaiting a return flight to Nicaragua. That's been our "Plan A" all along. Our hearts are there, and it's where we've been preparing and aiming to be throughout this entire journey. Not to mention where nearly all our earthly possessions are ;)

As it stands, however, there are still no flights to Nicaragua. And all those that were scheduled since the pandemic began have been cancelled month after month with no foreseeable end to that cycle. Some airlines and projections estimate this will continue until mid 2021 at the earliest. A grim outlook for our return at the moment.

Closed Door on Plan B
But because we've been through more than a few changed plans in the recent past, we'd gone so far as to make a "Plan B" to return to Costa Rica and continue ministry there if a return to Nicaragua wasn't possible for a time. However, in light of the pandemic, Costa Rica as well as the rest of the Central American countries have closed their borders, or are very heavily restricting entry. Simply put, another closed door.

Seeking Plan C
While our desire and aim is still to return to Nicaragua, we're now praying and seeking out a "Plan C " in light of these closed doors. We've been patiently waiting for God's timing, and now we feel Him prompting us to explore next steps.  We're eager to be contributing again to the advancement of the Kingdom however and wherever God may have us do that. Our hands and hearts are open and we wholly trust that God is in control and at work. After all, even our own wild story over the past three years bears testament to His perfect plan, even in times of turmoil.

We know these are uncertain times for everyone. But in these times, we rejoice all the more in the unwavering love and steadfastness of God and the body of Christ. Please keep in touch and let us know how we can pray for you. We're so grateful for your continued encouragement, understanding, and support.

Bendiciones,

Prayer & Praise

  • Please join us in praying for discernment and clarity moving forward.
  • Please pray for Nicaragua: like many Central American countries, the pandemic has been a compounding issue building on existing political and humanitarian strife in recent times.
  • Pray for our teammates, the McEwans:
    • Praise God for their continued ministry in León.
    • Pray for health and safety for them amidst a blatant mishandling of the situation by the Nicaraguan government.
  • Praise God for the generosity of sweet friends who provided us with a place to stay and car to drive in Florida for the past few months.

On Our Nightstand

Kurtis: A fun loving entrepreneur following God's calling, loving his wife and family, and making strides to build small businesses using every quirky gift God has given him... I'M SOLD! This book was an absolute blast to read, or rather listen to (the audiobook is read by Chip, and I'd suggest it just to hear him laugh at himself). I resonate with Chip in many ways, especially his tendency to take leaps of faith. I'm also inspired by Chip to simultaneously lean on the Lord in times of uncertainty while still running headlong into the unknown. If you need a good laugh, motivation, or just want to hear some fun stories about a guy's life, this book is for you!

Carrie: This was such a timely read for me!  The Whole Brain Child is a crash course in brain science and child development. It sounds intimidating, but the authors make it easy to understand and very practical. It introduces parenting strategies to help children develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence, decision-making skills, resiliency, healthy relationships, etc. The end of the book has print outs that summarize each strategy with age appropriate applications. It gave me some much-needed tools to understand our three year old's rollercoaster of emotions and help her navigate them in healthy ways.

Write, call, or send a Marco Polo! We'd love to know how each of you are doing and what your family's Covid hacks are!
