Your Local Connection, Worldwide

Hello Chapter Leaders,

The conference is rapidly approaching and we are excited to tell you more about the upcoming events!

Chapters Workshop

As a reminder, all of the workshop information can be found in this public Google Doc

Some helpful notes for the workshop:

  1. When you first join the workshop Zoom call on Saturday, someone will be in the lobby to greet you and then send you to a breakout room. This is meant to simulate the morning breakfast conversation we have at the workshop every year. Feel free to bring your breakfast! This is a bit of an experiment with how we can use Zoom for the Chapters Party which you’ll hear more about during the workshop.
  2. During introductions, it would be great if everyone could bring a small trinket for the “show and tell” - it could be a postcard of your hometown or you could drag your bicycle into the room - just something that helps us get to know you and your chapter better!

  3. There is also a cooking competition in the second half of the day, so if you want a chance at a prize of a vintage Pixar teapot, you may want to plan your food the day before! Note that if you want a chance at the prize, the voting will happen on the chapter leaders Slack account. If you haven’t joined the Slack yet, request access through this form!

    1. Note: this can be baking or cooking, it just needs to be homemade food.

  4. We are planning to play a JackBox game as a get-to-know-you activity - for those who haven’t played a JackBox game before, it will work best if you have both a computer screen to see the overall game AND a mobile device to submit your own answers.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday, August 1st at noon Eastern time!

Chapters Birds of a Feather (BOF)

This will be a 1-hour session that is in the BOF category of conference events. It will give a preview of our Chapters Fast Forward which we’d love as many chapters members to participate in as possible! Please come to support your fellow chapters. In order to present your own Chapters Fast Forward, please submit all of your content via this Google Form by August 11th, 2020. Directions for submitting to the CFF can be found here

The Chapters BOF Session will also be a chance for existing chapter leaders to chat with the Professional and Student Chapters Committee if you have any outstanding questions and concerns. We’re also just happy to chat!

Virtual Chapters Party

The PSCC would like to invite all Chapters to organize an online event during SIGGRAPH 2020 for the Virtual ACM SIGGRAPH Chapters Party. This will be during the live Conference week from Monday 24th to Friday 28th August

The first ten chapters to sign up to host virtual rooms are entitled to one complimentary Enhanced Registration and one complimentary Basic Registration for the virtual conference*. Please read through this PDF which includes all the information and the sign up form.

Thank you all so much for continuing to contribute to our vibrant community, even while many of you are working, caring for children, and attending school from home. You are the reason this virtual event will feel like a gathering of community.

*This limit on ten chapters was put in place due to the budgetary constraints of having the in-person conference canceled. If more than ten chapters apply, we will attempt to request more, so please don’t hesitate to ask.

Cheers,
AJ Christensen
