Dear SCAO/ Members of the Sudanese Community,
We would like to invite you to participate in a peaceful protest on Saturday August 1st, 2020 against the violence and human rights abuses currently taking place in Darfur. The recent attacks on sit-ins taking place in multiple villages, including Nertiti and Fatabarno, has sparked international outrage on the lack of safety for Darfuri people and there are members within our community who share this sentiment.
The objective of this protest is simple: to spread awareness about the atrocities and continuation of genocide in Darfur and to demand action be taken to end this. Protesting is not only a call to action, but a show of solidarity with those who are being fought for. Therefore, in order to expect concern from the surrounding community in Ottawa and internationally, the onus is on the Sudanese to display their support for the people of Darfur and lead this movement. This is why the presence of Sudanese people at our protest will be so vital.
The protest will be in front of the Sudanese Embassy and will be followed by a vigil. The protest will go from 1 to 4pm.

In order to abide by public health guidelines during the covid-19 pandemic, we will ensure that this protest is socially distanced (2m between participants) and masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to anyone who needs them.
