Saved from Humiliation
from Impact Middle East leader in Jordan
Her name is Thena'a, a Syrian refugee in Jordan. She is a woman of God. God has gifted her with grace and patience.
Thena'a came to the sewing project at our church and completed the course. She would sit with me and tell me about her life. She told me she had married her husband because he had money. Together they had several children. Sadly, he took two of their sons, married another woman, and left the country. She did not want to divorce him because of their children. Furthermore, the culture of her family would not allow for divorce.
As her children grew up, Thena'a worked at a nursery school to pay the rent. She took assistance from the church because it was desperately needed. When I visited her in her home, I saw that she had a sewing machine. The machine, however, was very old, rusted and barely worked.
There are many women like this, who are underprivileged and want honest work to provide for their needs. I asked for prayer from people at the church for God to provide new machines for women associated with the church. How? I did not know, but God put this request on my heart for His service. It was for the glory of His name.
Twenty-eight industrial machines were provided in answer to those prayers. Thena'a was one of the women who received a new machine. I remember her words spoken with tears of joy, “You saved me from humiliation, me and my children.” She thanked me for teaching her the art of clean and accurate sewing.
The new machine allowed Thena'a to get sewing clients who pay her a good wage. She is still working with continuous success.
