New Look. Same Mission.

Dear Friends,

CAMA began in 1972 to meet the needs of refugees in Southeast Asia.

Working in the refugee camps in Thailand, CAMA workers saw a way to help Hmong women make an income through their traditional embroidery skills. That was the start of CAMACrafts. As refugees returned home to Laos after the war, CAMACrafts returned with them and became a self-sustaining business.

Now, almost 30 years later, their handicrafts continue to be sold in local and foreign markets.

The 1000-Mask Project

Your gifts to our COVID-19 relief efforts provided a grant to CAMACrafts to make a 1,000 face masks, including 400 for children, and distribute 1,000 bars of soap. During the distributions, CAMACrafts staff led games for children that also focused on health, hygiene, and caring for others.

People grow best through challenging work, and we saw local staff grow in their administrative skills. Other staff members showed gifting in working with children.

Because each mask featured relatively simple embroidery, new producers could join in and practice their skills while earning an income. Some more experienced producers used traditional techniques to embroider superheroes on children’s masks, giving staff endless ideas for new products.

The Local Church

Because of your support, one of the sites to receive these masks was a small Hmong church. Nearly every older member of this rural church had lived in the refugee camps where CAMACrafts was born. Decades later, they still remember CAMA workers by name!

It’s encouraging to recognize that leaders of this church received theological training by The Alliance. And the Hmong District in the US, in partnership with CAMA, supplied the church with hymnals and a clean water well for the community. This little church in rural Laos is an example of the Alliance family partnering well together to establish a church and extend the Kingdom of God.

Some CAMACrafts staff do not yet know Christ and have rarely, if ever, been to a church service. This rural church warmly welcomed them, giving them a positive church experience in their own minority language. We’re encouraged to hear that since these distributions, staff are becoming more engaged in weekly prayer meetings. You can join me in praying that the staff who do not yet know the One who gives hope will soon put their trust in Him.

Will you also lift up the general manager of CAMACrafts? With borders closed, our friend and local partner is unable to receive medical treatment for his cancer. See how to pray.

The 1000-mask project is a CAMA story coming full circle. Thank you for your partnership in making it possible!

Grateful for you,

Give to COVID-19 Relief

Welcome to the new look.

As you may have noticed, we launched a new logo, color scheme, and website. To know more about the reasoning behind our rebrand, we encourage you to read this update. We are excited about the change, and thank you for being a part of this new chapter!

With the new website, your giving experience and receipts will look different. But with the change, comes enhanced security features and access to a My CMA Account. The account allows you to save information, manage gifts, and view giving history. Another thing to note about our Give page is workers and projects in higher-risk areas will not auto-populate. You will need to fill in their names or fund, or visit the Our Team and Our Projects page.

Thank you for your dedication to Christ-centered compassion! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.
