July 2020 - Practice Newsletter
Coronavirus Information on our Website

We have updated the Coronavirus information on our website where we have a dedicated page with topics on our new ways of working, how to access our services, mental health resources, unwell children and much more.

Some topics are topics specific to groups of patients such as tips for diabetic patients and information on cancer symptoms and screening.

We will continue to add information as the situation develops so please check back from time to time.
Face Coverings
On 24th July it became mandatory to wear face coverings in shops. We know that some people have legitimate reasons for not being able to wear a face covering and there is more information about that on the Coronavirus page on our website.

We do ask patients to wear a face covering in the Practice.
Flu Vaccination
NHS England have announced that the flu vaccination programme is to be extended to additional groups this year including the households of shielding patients. The most significant change is that everyone aged 50-64 will be eligible for the vaccination.

Since the decision to vaccinate this new group has come very close to the start of the flu vaccination season, and it take months to produce the vaccine, we understand that the over 50's are to be vaccinated after the over 65's. We will therefore expect to call the over 50's who aren't in a clinical risk group (eg Diabetes, asthma) after we have vaccinated the majority of the over 65s and younger patients in clinical risk groups.

We are actively working on our plans to offer vaccination in a way that ensures social distancing but avoids long queues. We fully expect to be offering vaccination appointments before the end of August with our first clinic likely to be in early September.

If you have any ideas, comments or concerns regarding our flu vaccination programme please complete our short survey here.

Our flu vaccination clinics will look very different this year and we would like to thank you in advance for your co-operation in helping us to run them efficiently and safely. More information on our arrangements will be published as soon as possible.
Opening Times
We have resumed our late appointment slots Monday to Wednesday until 8pm. All face to face appointments remain at the discretion of the clinical team and the majority of patient contact is still by telephone. That is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. However, where clinically indicated we are seeing patients face to face.
Blood Pressure Machines
Something we have noticed over the last few months is how helpful it is when patients have bought their own blood pressure machine and are able to to supply readings to us. If you have a medical condition such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease or cardiovascular disease you may want to consider buying a machine if you are able to. They range in price but you don't need to spend more than about £30. We have information on our website if you are considering buying a machine. When it's time for your review we can receive and discuss your results without the need for you to come to the surgery. Having your own machine also allows you to monitor your blood pressure between visits.
An Update on Shielding
The shielding programme is officially suspended from 31st July. We have been tasked with reviewing the list of shielded patients over the summer and we are expecting NHS England to provide us with further information on changes to the recommendations on who should shield if the programme is restarted.
