Dear readers,

Welcome to the first newsletter of the LC Districts project. We have two semesters of work behind us. The first semester was full of activities. The project kick-off meeting took place in Spain, after which the partners actively established contact with local stakeholders.
As our project is based on mutual meeting and sharing of experiences, the plans for the second semester were thwarted by the COVID-19 crisis, but we are convinced that we will catch up with all the work in the following semesters.
Since there is no uniform definition of „low carbon districts" and each region may face slightly different problems in the transition to a low-carbon economy, today we would like to introduce the partner regions and their goals in the project.

Two project partners are based in Spain in the region of Navarre: Nasuvinsa, a public corporation of housing and urban development, and the Government of Navarre, which is also the project lead partner. Read more about their goals in the project.

Other two partners are from the Czech Republic. The Energy Agency of the Zlín Region and the University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings of the Czech Technical University in Prague. Their goal is to improve policies at the national level. What do they want to focus on?

Our Swedish partner is the Linnaeus University in Växjö. The main aim of the partners from the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology is to promote collaboration between academia and the building as well as construction industries.

Our Croatian partner is the North-West Croatia Regional Energy Agency from Zagreb. They want to specifically concentrate on influencing sectoral policies in the district heating domain. Read more in their short presentation.

We must not forget to mention our Italian partner, the Marché region. As part of the project, they would like to develop a new sustainable urban plan for areas hit by the earthquake in 2016, which would be in line with the transition to a low carbon economy.

In conclusion, we would like to share with you a new article from the experts of the University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings of the Czech Technical University in Prague that looks at reducing CO2 emissions in the field of buildings and renovation of public buildings.
