MoHA - UCLG ASPAC MoU Signing: New Collaboration Phase, Stronger and More Impactful
9 July 2020 | JAKARTA – UCLG ASPAC enters the next phase of collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) of Indonesia. Marked by the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UCLG ASPAC, represented by Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi and MoHA by Mr. Nelson Simanjuntak, Head of Facilitation Cooperation Centre, and in the presence of Vice Governor of Jakarta Capital City, Mr. Ahmad Riza Patria, representing Governor of Jakarta Province as the Co-President of UCLG ASPAC, all parties agreed to take this collaboration to the level that contributes much more tangible impacts to the development of urban areas and attainment of the sustainable development goals. Enhancing Strategic Cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea at Local Level

Empowering Youth on Resilience (Post-COVID-19)
3 July 2020 | JAKARTA – UCLG ASPAC has advocated the importance of involving youth in local development. Embracing this thought, UCLG ASPAC incorporated “Empowering Youth on Resilience” theme in the webinar to share the insights further during this pandemic and to gain lessons learnt from relevant stakeholders. Sharing Local Perspective on Labour Migration and Development at GFMD 2020
6-13 July 2020 | ABU DHABI – Mayor Madelaine Yorobe Alfelor of Iriga (Phillippines) shared the importance of migration and development from the perspective of local government at the regional consultations of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) conducted virtually on 6 July 2020. With the Philippines as one of the countries of origin of migrant workers that is part of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, Mayor Madelaine Yorobe Alfelor explained how migration is an important issue for the country and the City of Iriga. Social Protection of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) is mandated by law and ensuring the safety and welfare of OFWs are priorities identified in national and provincial development plans. Click

Attaining Short-Term Targets of SDGs in the Face of Pandemic
THE COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the focus of local governments, from developing urban areas sustainably to development of proper responses on COVID-19, prevention method, and recovery plan afterwards. At the same time, local governments are also catching up with time to meet the deadline of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UCLG ASPAC has supported member cities through various ways, such as dissemination of relevant local innovations, production of quick guide for local governments, and web-share discussions that refresh the commitment of cities to SDGs localisation. Leveraging Network through City-to-City Cooperation towards a More Circular City
UCLG ASPAC has once again assisted its city network to leverage their positive efforts in responding to climate change. Under the framework of IUC Asia programme, UCLG ASPAC has uplifted the cooperation between Malaysian cities (Petaling Jaya and Penang) with the European Union as its global partner to implement the circular economy agenda. The cooperation is also expected to contribute to Circular Economy Roadmap (CER) for plastics, a national level initiative that is planned to be introduced by the end of 2020. Click

LEAD for SDGs Webinar: Effective Implementation at Grassroot Level
7 July 2020 | ISLAMABAD – The LEAD for SDGs Programme in collaboration with Government of Balochistan, SDGs Units. Planning and Development Departments and UNDP sub-office Quetta organised a webinar on "SDGs Localisation: Provincial SDGs Frameworks and Role of Stakeholders in their implementation", to share the progress made by provinces in developing the provincial SDGs frameworks and to highlight the roles of various stakeholders including local governments, civil society, private sector, academia and media in its implementation.
