Goose Poop and the Gospel

Water Fowls Ignore Deuteronomy 23:12,13

I was out with a couple of brothers prayer walking by a lake, asking the Holy Spirit to lead us to someone. We struck up a conversation with a young couple on a blanket enjoying a picnic. I sat across from them and we had a great conversation talking about Gaithersburg, living the U.S. and other topics.

We also chatted about Jesus fulfilling the sacrificial system and taking our shame and sin on the cross. They gave some standard Islamic objections, but our talk was so very cordial and gracious. We spoke of how we have to be able to discuss important issues like this, still disagreeing, but in patience and love.

Sensing they were done with this out-of-the-blue chat I stood up and noticed why the couple had brought a blanket. For the previous thirty or so minutes I had been sitting in an abundance of goose poop. Moral of the story? Count all things as dung (even your pants!) - Philippians 3:8, KJV.

Summer Outreach
We had two concerted outreach initiatives called Unreached Within Reach; one in Northern Virginia, the other in Maryland. Each 3.5-day effort consisted of prayer, cross cultural / worldview / outreach training, visiting mosques or temples, and then outreach to the unreached either in shops or door-to-door. This was all done masked and in Covid-safe ways. Between both events about 30 participated sharing the gospel multiple times and distributing gospel literature to over 500 homes.
Digital Outreach
Of course, with the advent of Covid, we have tried to adjust our approaches somewhat. Providentially, a few months before the pandemic I learned a little about digital outreach efforts by teams around the world. Since then, I've been learning (with the help of a team mate!) about creating ads on Facebook and Instagram. It is certainly less personal, but it is also more targeted while still going out to tens of thousands. We are praying that the right ad reaches people God is already working in.
Tajik Connection
In the DC area there are three groups who speak Farsi; 40,000+ Iranians, 18,000+ Afghans and about 1,000 Tajiks. It has only been recently that we have met and are building relationships with Tajiks. One influential guy seems interested, so we could use prayer.
Financial Partnership
To help meet our financial and insurance needs, Tammy works part-time as a teacher. Additional financial partners are welcome so Tammy can devote time to reaching unreached women. Click here.
Food Opens Doors
We have been partnering with a very large local church to deliver food to an apartment complex with residents who have lost work because of Covid. As such, we have made contacts with many Persian speakers and have had the chance not only to serve them with physical needs (in one case, helping with rent) but also spiritually. I've gone particularly deep with one man, developing a friendship, sharing the gospel, responding to his questions. There are many, many families here. We are praying for revival in this place!
Persian Meetings
For the past several months, we have been meeting with Persian believers via Zoom or outside. We sing worship songs and study the Bible in Persian and English to encourage and equip our Persian friends to share the gospel with their friends and to provide an environment for non-believers to come and experience the Spirit of God. Muslims have visited and been touched and the gopsel has been shared by attendees with friends and relatives, even overseas.
On a Personal Note
David will be returning to VA Tech in a few days and Isaiah is looking at postponing overseas endeavors to get his teaching certificate in the fall. Tammy has been busy ministering to the ladies, teaching summer school and putting up with yours truly.
Who is this Mission Group Again?
We serve with a missions organization called "Global Gates" who seeks to make a global impact through reaching immigrants and internationals in urban gateway cities. Check out our website or this video.
Any designated donations are made with the understanding that Global Gates has complete control and administration over the use of the donated funds.
