Warden's Parish News 2 August
As the sun continues to shine here in New Zealand, we keep in our prayers all those suffering from or affected by Covid-19. We are grateful for all the hard work put in by the government and our team of 5 million.
This week’s services (8am and 10am) will be taken by Rev Kay Webster.
Thank you Kay for being with us.
Working Bee
The working bee scheduled for 8 August has had to be postponed due to people’s unavailability on that date. As we said last week the aim is to make ourselves more presentable to any group looking to rent premises in the area and, of course, to make things nicer for us all. The work will be around the gardens, washing down paintwork (where easily accessible) and more general tidying up. First impressions are all so it will be good to have everywhere looking presentable when possible hall renters come and see what we are able to offer. Are you available to help please on 15, 22, or 29 August? Please let Pam (027 602 7827 or p.b.barrac@gmail.com) or Lee (021 029 91480 or brianandlee@icloud.com) know which day would suit you best. Or you can catch Pam and Lee after church.
Property maintenance group
We are extremely grateful Pam, who on stepping down from Vestry in March, agreed to carry on as property person. However, this task is far too big for one person to do alone. Would you be able to help here? You won’t be expected to actual repair work just to help with co-ordination, checking property, getting quotes etc. Some small tasks are done by parishioners but anything larger is contracted out. Please let one of the wardens know if you can help here.
Access to hall and church
When you use the new key safe boxes to access a key to church or the hall please ensure that the box it locked after returning the key. To do this just roll the tumblers round so that they are not set at the access code.
And don’t forget to let someone know you are in the church or hall and tell them when you leave – a small thing to do but it will ensure that you are safe.
A reminder of the new small group being formed – it is not too late to join:
New Small Group Forming by Jennifer and David Hammond – all welcome.
Come join us Monday evening 10 August for the launch of a new weekly small, home group at Jennifer & David Hammond's house (4 Nadia Grove). We'll begin 7:30 pm with a shared meal (main dish provided-bring a side or dessert) followed by introductions and Bible study. Contact 479 0223 or 021 0277 5255 (Jennifer).
Vera Gallagher
It is with great sadness that we tell you of Vera Gallagher’s death at Malvina Major. Vera was a long-time parishioner of All Saint’s and Onslow Anglicans. She died on Tuesday 28 July. Her funeral will be on Tuesday 4 August at 11am at St Barnabas.
May she rest in peace. Please keep Vera’s family in your prayers.
Pink Ribbon Fundraiser
Breast cancer, and other cancers, have touched a lot of our parish families.
We thought it would be nice to help this good cause and have some fun at the same time. Maybe a breakfast, a lunch, or an afternoon tea? We are able to register for an event which can be held up till the end of August – we just need someone to organise it. We will be supplied with a registration pack filled with lots of goodies and ideas that will help us with the fundraiser.
Please let us know, as soon as possible, if you are willing to assist with the arrangements – maybe you and a friend or two could do this? We are sure there will be lots of people happy to help with a plate of food. Then we can all ask our friends and family to come along. Boys are welcome too!
If you would like further information please go to this link https://pinkribbonbreakfast.co.nz/ or you could do a direct donation to our fundraising account at https://pinkribbonbreakfast.co.nz/page/onslowanglicanchurch
And lastly
The Tapestry of Understanding
The tapestry of understanding cannot be woven by one strand alone.
Only by the working together of strands and the working together of weavers
Will such a tapestry be completed.
When it is complete let us look at the good that comes from it.
And in time we should also look at those dropped stitches
Because they also have a message.
God bless,
Flora and Lee
