1. Wearables News and Wearables Track @ GIANT

Over the next couple of weeks we want to share with you what we will be looking forward to discussing with you.

Wearables Track at GIANT Health

The Health sector wearables track @ GIANT health will focus on:
  • Why, globally, people are taking up wearables in earnest?
  • How we may close the digital loop with wearables?
  • What our experts think the future of wearables looks like?

For more information around this topic and track at GIANT Health; read more here

A Swedish medtech startup, Doccla, is pioneering virtual hospital care, and has announced a partnership with Northamption General Hospital NHST Trust (NGH) in the UK. The remote trial will include smart patient monitoring to free up NHS capacity. It will be interesting to see if these partnerships will turn to wearables and hardware to support their initiatives.

2. Separating The Strains: a medical cannabis & epilepsy film

Separating The Strains is a feature-length documentary that follows the story of two sisters who both suffer from epilepsy. Tamsin Leyland, 37, has severe refractory epilepsy and lives in full-time care in the UK, whereas Chelsea Leyland, 32, has a manageable form called Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, and lives in New York working as a DJ and activist.

During this deeply personal and revealing film, we follow the lives of these sisters and gain a unique insight into life with epilepsy. We also watch Chelsea and her family fight to gain Tamsin access to medical cannabis in the UK to help treat her epilepsy, after having success herself with cannabis. Chelsea has been seizure-free since treating herself with cannabis.
