I wake up,
and wish there was
something beautiful
in my heart,
But instead it’s a sore muscle.
...
Downstairs,
we work the knot,
pressing against
what we cannot see.
Something is wrong,
but we’re not sure what.
...
The old books
did not prepare us for this.
The old stories
do not know what to do.
...
I want there to be an answer
but there is only
the will to keep going.
...
Today,
Instead of running through time,
I will breathe.
Instead of needing to be right,
I will just be.
I will ask the sun
to wash me with heat
and ask the rain
for a drink.
Instead of wondering,
I will walk in the woods,
Pressing against
what I cannot see
with the simple truths
that I can still do.
Something will be the right answer,
even if I am not sure what.

Today,
my heart still beats
like a beautiful, magnificent secret,
and that
is where I will begin.
