Speeding on the A39
At the July meeting of the Parish Council it was noted that with the gradual removal of some of the lock down measures, the increase in road traffic and especially the speed thereof was again becoming an issue.

There was agreement that the provision of a speed indicator device was a laudable aim to improve public safety particularly due to the accident history on the section of the A39 road  which runs through the Parish.

However, the operation of such will require commitment by volunteers to be actively involved and consequently there is a need to establish such support before proceeding with the project. This would involve mounting and removal of the sign as it is not able to be permanently sited.

Maintenance of Council land
The planned establishment of a Management Plan for the former railway embankment has now taken a step forward. Dr Chris Smith has now made his first visit to the area as part of this exercise which would enable us to plan for the maintenance of the area.

On a more general basis, maintenance and improvement in Bawdrip is carried out in a limited way by some volunteers acting generally on an individual basis for which we are grateful. The  Council owns various parcels of land and assets within the village. It is considered essential that to safeguard and maintain these areas for future generations these need to be properly managed and maintained as a village amenities, which will help us to be more proud of our surroundings.

You will recall that the village was not in favour of creating a charitable trust to look after Council owned land but the general preference was to identify the specific maintenance areas needed on a regular basis and agree the approach for each area. To enable this to be achieved and generally improve the look of our village we need to involve more volunteers. This of necessity is likely to be a mixture of voluntary or professional input and so t
he Parish Council will need to make annual budgetary provision to fund work not undertaken by volunteers e.g. removal  larger branches as was recently the case on the railway embankment.

The areas Identified are as follows:
  • Former railway embankment ditch and the concrete steps
  • Village green and the trees thereon
  • The open space and the area behind houses in Shaw’s Orchard
  • Open ditches and areas in Church Road to keep clear of growth brambles etc
  • Other items to include; Interpretation Boards, general notice boards and bus shelter etc
  • Clear rubbish and litter from the area on a regular basis incorporating the existing litter pick
We hope that volunteers will come forward to protect these areas and help to improve our village.
If you feel that you would be interested in be involved or finding out more please get in touch.
