We hope you had a wonderful and blessed Eid!

Dear Friends of the Utah Muslim Civic League,

Eid Mubarak!
We hope each one of you had a safe and enjoyable time with your loved ones over the weekend.

This time of year marks the second anniversary of UMCL. What started as a group of committed volunteers in 2018 was then inducted a formal Board of Directors alongside a full time Executive Director in 2019.  This year also marks the beginning of our "Fellows Program", which aims to enhance civic leadership amongst American Muslim youth in Utah.

There are many milestones to recognize and celebrate from the past year. And there are many more lessons learnt along the way. Below, we highlight various accomplishments from the past year. This is all thanks to your support!

We successfully organized the first Muslim Day on the Capitol.

Organized the first Teacher Training on Islamophobia in partnership with SLSD and ISPU

Organized Complete Count Committee for
Census 2020

Partnered with Sundance Film Festival for community screenings

Participated in interfaith dialogue about faith and sustainability

We engaged a number of Elected Officials through visits to Masjids and various Community Events.

Together with local officials, we marked July 11th 2020 as "Srebrenica Remembrance Day".

We led a social media campaign for Eid. A record number of elected officials issued messages.
We are so thankful!

Other milestones to celebrate:
  • We organized a series of virtual Iftars with the Mayors and other representatives.
  • We've led over 20 events, including community town halls, interfaith dialogues, and others.
  • We've been involved in dialogue with elective officials after the murder of George Floyd, bringing our Youth to various forums.
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, we provided personal protective equipment to the local Muslim community.
  • UMCL also administered guidance and instruction to Muslim business owners and leaders to navigate the economic recession following COVID-19.
  • We have distributed food and other mutual aid to those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
After the COVID-19 crisis, UMCL has pivoted our approach to conducting our activities online, and we continue to serve our community in an engaging way. We are committed to enhancing the role Muslims play in our democracy and will continue to forge ahead with our programming to reflect that.

And by doing so, together we will again promote Islamic and American values of mercy, justice, peace, human dignity, freedom, and equality for all.

2020 is a critical election year. Please stay tuned for our programs. Keep in touch with us by following us on social media. Make sure to follow us on
Facebook to stay updated. Let's continue to amplify our voices! God willing.
