Our kids are going back to school in August. Beaverdale Cares and the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association want to make sure that every child returning to school in our neighborhood elementary schools has access to a mask! We have decided to have a mask drive in our community.

You can help in a few different ways... you can donate kid-friendly masks (purchased or homemade), you can donate money (to purchase masks), or you can volunteer your time to help distribute!

You can drop off CHILDREN'S sized masks at the following locations (last day to drop off is August 24th):
Back Country
Franklin Barber Shop
Beaver Avenue Cleaners
Green Family Flooring
Christopher's Restaurant DSM
Anytime Fitness Beaverdale

If you would like to make them yourself... We love you!

If you would like to purchase masks locally - you can visit Busy Bee Tailor.

-OR- There are many options on Amazon.
50 Pack of Disposable Kids masks

A big THANK YOU to our local businesses willing to help us out!

PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY!

Let's keep our kids safe this fall!
The Rain Campaign is excited to collaborate with local Beaverdale businesses Back County and Young Gardens this August and September to help promote our program and stormwater education efforts. One of the things we are most looking forward to is a mini demonstration rain garden designed and maintained by Young Gardens, which will be just south of Back County along Sheridan Ave. Here you will be able to see examples of pollinator-friendly plant species you too could have in a rain garden at your home. Be sure to watch for an upcoming window display and tabling event at Back Country as well. We are very excited to help you learn more about opportunities and stormwater practices you can use at home to help improve the neighborhood and local water quality!

The BNA would like to thank the W.T. & Edna M. Dahl Trust for its recent $5,000 grant award to the Witmer Park Project. This award will significantly further our efforts to build a new playground in one of our neighborhood's beautiful parks and brings us a step closer to finishing the litany of improvements already well underway at Witmer. We are grateful to the W.T. & Edna M. Dahl Trust for its continuing investment in our community, including this project.

Playground fundraising efforts are ongoing, and the Witmer Park Project needs your help to make Witmer Park an even better place to play! Learn more and contribute at witmerparkproject.com.

The BNA would like to thank Ward 1 Councilman Bill Gray, Beautification Committee chair Nancy Dunbar, the City of Des Moines, and DART for their efforts to improve the bus stop on the south side of Urbandale Avenue, east of Beaver Avenue. A new concrete pad has already been poured and DART plans to have a shelter constructed next Spring. These additions will make the area safer for drivers, bus riders, and pedestrians, will encourage the use of public transit in Beaverdale, and will improve the aesthetics of the area.
Beaverdale Park neighbors initiated a conversation with city councilperson Bill Gray. The neighbors have concerns about the safety of the park. Making improvements holistically to the park has our neighbors eager to introduce a project via leaders at Parks n Rec. So far, we have established some initial momentum and communications. We hope that all of Beaverdale can start to support making Beaverdale Park the crown jewel of our neighborhood.

Contact Matt Connolly for more information on how to be involved!
Because of the pandemic - our quarterly meeting will be held online.
