Dear Liberty Families:

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!

We know that it is challenging to prepare for the return to school with so much uncertainty in the air, so I want to share with you some things you can definitely count on. First, know that we are ready and eager to connect with our families and begin educating your children. We are committed to supporting our families with virtual learning. To that end, you can look forward to some “how-to videos” for parents and personalized training from your child’s classroom teacher.

Second, while we will launch this school year building relationships with our children and families from a distance, we will strive to achieve the same close-working partnership you have come to expect with Liberty Schools in every other school year.

By now you should have received confirmation of your child’s placement in one of the three learning options available for this school year. You can log into ParentVue to view teacher assignments for your child. Please contact your school’s front office if you have additional questions about In-Person or Distance Learning. And, if you have questions about Liberty Online School, please contact Cynthia Peterson, cpeterson@liberty25.org, 623.474.6655.

Because the COVID-19 situation is fluid and can change things quickly, communication between the District and you this year will be more important than ever. Please continue to regularly review your school or district websites and parent newsletters for updated information.

Despite the challenges the pandemic has brought to everyone’s lives, we are excited about reconnecting with our families and students and making this school year a fantastic experience for you and your children. I want to personally thank our dedicated teachers and staff who have worked tirelessly over the summer to prepare for the year, and I am proud to work with such selfless and flexible education professionals.

Sincerely,

Lori Shough, Ed.D.
Superintendent

School Opens For ALL Students On August 5

All Liberty schools will open virtually for K-8 students on Wednesday, August 5. Your school principal will continue sending you updates with details specific to your school. The recent Executive Order from the Governor changed the date that Arizona schools can begin providing in-person, teacher-led classroom instruction from August 17 to a time when local governing boards determine that it is safe to return.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (AZDHS) will develop health benchmarks by August 7 that will communicate criteria for conditions of COVID-19 that should be met for safe return. On August 10, our Governing Board will evaluate our community’s condition with these health benchmarks. The Board may either approve a date for return or postpone a decision for an extended time if the community’s COVID condition is not yet improved enough to set a date to offer In-Person Learning again.

The important takeaway from our Governing Board, district leadership, and the Governor’s Executive Order is that we all want our schools to open as soon as possible, but that we are focused on the data, not the date. Click here to read the revised LESD Back to School Plan.

Tips and How-To Videos For Parents

The district has purchased additional technology devices to expand our 1:1 Chromebook supply for students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Now, all of our children will experience increased technology integration skills in their learning as outlined in the district’s strategic plan.

We will also continue to provide additional digital instructional resources that students can access at any time, whether at school or home. In the event that the district needs to quickly pivot our In-Person learning to Distance Learning, the expanded 1:1 technology devices and additional software position the district well for flexibility and change.

We will be ready to provide continuous quality education in a safe and healthy way for all Liberty students, no matter the method of instruction.

LEAP Summer Camp is extended until In-Person Learning begins. LEAP provides a range of structured play and learning opportunities within a licensed child care program. Children will have access to computers to complete their distance learning while participating in the program.

There is limited space available and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to current LEAP participants. Note that the LEAP program is a tuition-paid program. Click here for additional information about the LEAP program.

If you have a kindergarten student or a 6th grade student, it is likely that your child will need additional immunizations to start the school year.

Maricopa County Department of Public Health is offering free immunizations at three valley clinics.  Clinics are open Monday-Friday from 8 am - 4:30 pm and patients are seen primarily through scheduled appointments to allow for social distancing. Walk-ins will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis as time allows, without guarantee.

Be sure to secure an appointment by calling 602-506-6767 to schedule. To view the Guide to Arizona Immunizations Required for Entry immunization schedule click here.
