Eye Screening Subsidy

Dachshund Health UK is offering a £25 subsidy to breeders who carry out a KC/BVA clinical eye examination of any Dachshund that will be used for breeding (male & female). This is on a first-come, first-served basis and one subsidy per owner. There is a limited number of subsidies available at the moment so please email info@dachshundhealth.org.uk to reserve yours. All subsidies will be paid into your PayPal account - we regret that cannot send cheques or BACS transfers. Once your dog has been screened, provide proof and you will receive the subsidy.
Join the September World Big Dog Challenge and support Dachshund Health UK.

2020 has been a tough year for humans and dogs. Dog charities have been suffering tremendously throughout this world health crisis and the organisers of Dogfest think it is necessary to support man’s best friend in this moment of need.

They are asking the pawsome dog walking community to get out and about in their own environment, should that be in a field near your house or even around the block on your regular walkies and pledge a distance you and your dog will walk during the month of September to raise money for the dogs we all love.

From the 1st September, the links to dog charities including Dachshund Health UK will be made available for your pledges and donations. The aim is to get at least 40,075km, the circumference of the Earth pledged. It would be great to lap it many times!

Future of Animal Health Trust canine genetics research

The Kennel Club and the Animal Health Trust (AHT) have issued a joint statement to advise that, in the wake of this month’s news of the closure of the AHT, the scientific data and biological material including more than 40,000 DNA samples stored at the Kennel Club Genetics Centre at the AHT’s headquarters in Newmarket have been secured and moved to Cambridge University.

Teach your dog to be calm when someone comes to the door

Sharon Alton (Perfectly Polite Dachshunds) has written a great article for our "Tips for new owners" page on how to teach your Dachshund to be calm when someone comes to the door.

Lately, there has been an increase of issues reported on social media about dogs that are running out of the front door to chase the postman, a passing dog or just taking a general wander and sadly in some cases not finding their way back home.

Breed Council Secretary Retires
We were sorry to hear from Pauline Kerslake that she has decided to retire as Secretary of the Breed Council. Pauline has been Secretary for 4 years and has been extremely efficient in organising and managing the affairs of the council. We wish her the very best for her retirement and thank her for her contribution.

Nominations for Secretary can be sent to any of our Breed Club Secretaries. The Secretary is elected for a 3-year term and the role involves administration of the council's affairs, including communication with the breed clubs and Kennel Club, plus organising council meetings.
