Kickstarter earns nearly $7 million
Brandon Sanderson, who is a really nice guy, recently ran a Kickstarter campaign for a special leather-bound super-cool edition of his book, The Way of Kings to be released in two volumes.
It was a beautiful presentation and it raised over nearly 7 million dollars ($6,788,517.).
This has changed the world of publishing.A $7 million deal for ANY book is a huge thing and this is for a REPRINT (albeit a gorgeous).
Now, this was not his first Kickstarter. He didn't start out with such a huge number (in fact, he was only looking to get $250,000 - not a small amount of change to fund the Kickstarter).but built up a following over time by delivering quality books in a timely manner.
He certainly has the rest of us thinking.

More Kickstarters
The amazing Hugo Award-winning Dean Wesley Smith and Hugo AND Nebula award-winning Kristine Kathryn Rusch besides being prolific and talented authors (and editors) have done a number of Kickstarters, the most recent being Kris' The Return of the Boss.
They have long been promoters of others and of the good of the field, in keeping with Mum's admonition of years ago, "Don't just pay it back, pay it forward!"

They're the people who do ebook versions of Dragonholder, The One Tree of Luna, and Mum's Black Horses for the King.
Their newsletter is full of books on promotion.

Domestika is a Spanish company that offers all sorts of educational videos (with subtitles). I've signed up for a number of classes and am having a lot of fun doing art.
