Hello travellers,

Greetings from Adelaide Sydney.

Now I can't even go to Queensland

As of yesterday, I am pretty much shut out of interstate and international travel. Can't go to Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Tasmania, and now Queensland without completing 14 days in self-isolation. In fact, if I go to Queensland, its enforced quarantine at a government-approved hotel which I have to pay for. I may start raving about personal liberty in Bunnings any second. Except I am quite happy to and do wear a mask.

What happened last week?

Well aside from being classified as a pariah in Queensland, mind you, they did that in the '70s to anyone who protested the government, nothing much.

We have all been glued to our newsgathering devices waiting each day to hear the horror COVID-19 statistics coming out of Victoria. Secretly we are glad they are not occurring here in our fair state of NSW. Something about 'grace' and 'there go I'.

What's coming up?

Sorry for being tardy with posting. I've been filled with a bit of isolation melancholy this week, plus the travel industry has been fairly quiet as well.

Some reviews are in the pipeline, so you can get excited when borders do open, and international flights return as an option.

You can catch up on posts from last week below. Until next week . . .

Happy (not if you're a lying Melbourne visitor returning to Queensland) Travels,

Stephen

COVID-19: Brazil opens borders. I wouldn’t go there even if I was allowed.

By 2paxfly on Aug 01, 2020 02:37 pm

Brazil is a beautiful place. I have only been once, well technically according to my passport, twice, but on one visa. The double visit was caused by crossing borders at Iguazú Falls between the Argentinian and Brazilian side, recrossing and heading on to Rio for Carnival. Brazil closed it borders back in March, at a […]

Qantas: Lounge openings deferred

By 2paxfly on Jul 31, 2020 12:37 pm

Qantas had committed to gradually reopening its airport lounges over the next few weeks. We were expecting to see all Queensland lounges open by now, with other lounges gradually opening in August. Renewed border closures has put the kibosh on that. Open Lounges Here from the Qantas website is a list of open lounges, and […]

COVID-19: Queensland border with New South Wales shut from 1 August – for some

By 2paxfly on Jul 31, 2020 11:35 am

In a bid to control the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, Australian states have been closing and opening their borders depending on the numbers of infected residents of whatever is their next state across the border. And by closing, I mean requiring you to self-quarantine for 14 days on arrival in that state. In May, […]

OneWorld: Redeem Alliance wide upgrades

By 2paxfly on Jul 27, 2020 07:00 am

Rumours ar flying around that the OneWorld alliance is about to introduce upgrades across the alliance. That means that if you have booked a flight on a combination of OneWorld airlines, you could apply an upgrade to business or maybe even first across the trip, even though travelling on different legs on different airlines. OneWorld […]

Virgin Australia: Velocity points flight redemptions valid again

By 2paxfly on Jul 26, 2020 12:42 pm

With Virgin Australia in administration, one of the first things they did was essentially freeze redemptions and transfer of Velocity points, while they sorted out a sale of the airline. That has now – bar the agreement of the creditors – been done, and so, Velocity Points have returned to being a valid currency for […]
