If you haven't already received a meeting link let us know and we will email you one ( zoom.shasa@gmail.com ).

Red Door Hall Heatwave and Bushfire Haven Update

With $4000 remaining in unspent funds we have secured approval from Infrastructure NSW, as part of a detailed progress report, to install underfloor insulation and to repair a structural beam under the kitchen.  These works will be completed in the next 4-6 weeks.

A big thank you to Linda Chapman and Thomas Schild for managing such a complex project.

Moruya Repair Cafe

Valerie Faber, Brett Stevenson, Deb Stevenson and Kathryn Maxwell (members of the SHASA Repair Cafe Committee) have been busy with preparations for setting up the Moruya Repair Cafe.  With the Library access currently restricted the Repair Cafe will operate from the Anglican Parish Red Door Hall on Wednesdays from 10 am to 2 pm from 25 August 2020.  SHASA is so pleased with the response from volunteers to help fix items, welcome people, provide tea and coffee and cakes to everyone at the Repair Cafe.

Through our contact at the Bega Valley Repair Cafe, we have had advice on how to operate a repair cafe – the necessary tools, signage etc.  We are most grateful for this wonderful advice.  SHASA has also joined the Repair Cafe International Foundation which is a non-profit organisation which assists Repair Cafes around the world.  They provide an excellent handbook, templates, logos etc.

If you have any items (tools, fabrics, etc) you would like to donate please to the Repair Cafe contact Kathryn Maxwell on 0467 558 645 or email contact.shasa@gmail.com

1st edition of the Moos News it out

Hold onto ya hats, cos here she blows: the 1st edition of Moo’s News, hot off the press and modelled by our very own, Peter Fairlie.

Wondering what all the fuss is about?  Moo’s News is a newsletter written BY the community FOR the community, with the aim of helping with bushfire recovery and bringing the people of Bodalla & Surrounds together.

This is a SHASA project funded by Coordinare, part of the NSW South Eastern NSW Primary Health Network.

Keep an eye out for this hot ticket item in print around town or email mooforthenews@gmail.com to join our mailing list for an electronic copy.  We hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as we have putting it together.

2020 National Bushfire and Climate Summit

Kathryn Maxwell and Michelle Hamrosi took part in the 2020 National Bushfire and Climate Summit, community sector roundtable – a six-hour ZOOM event.

The Climate Council thanked participants for bringing all our experiences and insights to the round table discussions.

The summit has created a very important set of insights and recommendations and the Climate Council are keen to make the very best use of this.

To that end, in addition to the Key Findings Report, the Climate Council will be publishing a full-page advertisement (as shown above) in The Australian on Saturday 1 August highlighting the top 10 recommendations from the summit.  SHASA's logo is included in the advertisement.
For further information please contact Michelle at michelle.hamrosi@gmail.com

SHASA/MESA Solar bulk buy

We have a new flyer promoting the SHASA bulk buy.  Please share with friends and family.  Encourage landlords to install solar to keep electricity costs down for tenants.  Also helps those with holiday homes to cover their electricity connection costs (daily use charge). Systems purchased through the Bulk Buy make a small contribution/donation from each installation to SHASA. This assists with Community Solar projects in the Eurobodalla. Call Lisa from MESA (0410 790 616) for more info. Or you can download the Solar Bulk buy flyer here.
