THE NEW NORMAL
The all-members all summer show continues until August 30. Safety of our volunteers and visitors, plus showing members' art,
are all top of mind.
ARTISTS ON SITE
The Gallery Committee identified safe spaces for artists to paint in the gallery.  Here's a note from Gallery Committee member Sharon Wadsworth-Smith:
"I was in the gallery Friday and had the opportunity to take photos. I was able to actually paint an entire painting wearing my mask, a first for me! Every visitor had a mask on and it seemed to work well for all."
It looks like Sharon's time was well-spent. We appreciate all our volunteer Gallery Attendants' dedication o keeping the lights on and the art showing, and to adapting to the ever-changing requirements of Covid-19 protocols.
All photos this issue are from Sharon.
The Gallery Committee is planning another show starting in September, so Members, keep creating! Details about Outtake and Intake will be in the next LAS News & Updates, issued on or about August 17.
"JOB SHADOWING" INVITATION
To Members and potential members from Jan Hull, Board President:

The Lunenburg Art Society has a small Board of Directors: Officers: President – Jan Hull; Vice-President: has been vacant for ages; Treasurer: Kathy Fidyk; Secretary: Les French; Members at large: Jennifer Harrison; Jeff Gibson; Joanne Young
We should have at least nine Directors: all four Officers plus five Members at large. This would give some elbow-room for resignations, vacations, other absences, and a range of perspectives when issues come to a vote. Turnover is inevitable, and it would be very helpful to have experienced Directors to step in as needed.
So we're inviting members (and potential members) to ‘job-shadow’ a Board member this fall. It's easy: you would attend our meetings (online or in person if possible) and copied in emails. If the person you are 'shadowing' performs a specific task, s/he would discuss aspects of that with you.
The Members who are now the Gallery Committee were first invited by the Board to attend our meetings because we felt it was important to 'crowd-source' a wider group to deal with the decisions before us (that worked well).
Three Directors have already offered to 'mentor' the curious, either for a specific position, or just to check us out.
Having members become familiar with Directors' tasks when there isn't a serious vacancy gap will make transitions more natural and the positions seem less daunting.
Director positions should not be daunting! The Society should do only what it is capable of doing with (almost entirely) volunteers, and nothing more. In recent years, some volunteers have put in far more work than is healthy; some tasks done in the past may not survive into the future. The more members involved in running the organization, the more secure important programs will be.
This is not a trap; we will not assume you will serve unless and until you say you will. If you do discover that you would like to become a Director and serve your Society in this way, you would do so at the February 2021 AGM.
Please say yes: president@lunenburgartsociety.ca.

Kitty and his man came to see the show (before masks were required).
Do you find yourself dreaming about those cool, crisp days of autumn?
Does it help with this heat and humidity?
Seek shade. Hydrate. Show us your mask.
