An idea, birthed in Georgia Women's Civic Engagement Workgroup over a year ago, was simultaneously being discussed in other parts of our community -- the idea that meetings of Macon-Bibb elected and appointed government leaders need more oversight by members of the community, and a mechanism for reporting to those not present, what happened in a meeting.

In past newsletters, or at the "Georgia Women Love Voting" Salon, this was called a "community watch" program.

Growing out of the need for broad coordination to cover the large number of meetings, a coalition of organizations interested in improving civic engagement and better understanding our government's operations, developed. This group, the Civic Health Strategy Team, includes Bibb Community Partnership, The Center for Collaborative Journalism and other civic engagement organizations in Macon-Bibb.

As a result, "our" community watch program morphed into something bigger than what Georgia Women's Civic Engagement Workgroup ever dreamed!!!

We are now training the inaugural team of

Civic Ambassadors!
