We Need Your Voice

This academic year will be a unique experience for the North community as CMS reopens on August 17 under Plan C, the full-remote learning plan.  Like many of you, we are still processing how our families will navigate this fall semester. At this time, there are still many unknowns. What we do know is that our children, teachers and staff will need our support in whichever capacity instruction takes place in the coming months.

With this goal in mind, we encourage you to invest in North Mecklenburg High School by joining the PTSA for the 2020-2021 school year. This $10 commitment provides a connected, engaged group of parents/guardians, students, and teachers and staff dedicated to the education of our children. It It is even more imperative, this year,  that we have your voice, your experience and your participation.

If you're able please consider making a gift to our  Invest in Excellence direct donation campaign.

We look forward to seeing you at the August PTSA meeting at 6pm on Thursday, August 6. The Zoom ID is 767 9016 3625.

Thanks to the 2020-2021 PTSA Board

Revised CMS Reopening Plan

CMS Full Remote Learning Plan

During an emergency called meeting on Thursday, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted to revise its school reopening plan and approved a full-remote learning plan, known as Plan C. With this decision, CMS schools will open August 17 with fully remote learning.

CMS Full Remote Academy

CMS Full Remote Academy information - THIS OPTION IS STILL AVAILABLE IN THE EVENT
WE RESUME IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION THIS FALL.
Full Remote Academy registration (and withdrawals) have been extended through August. 3.  Please contact your school directly. Withdrawals after this time will not be permitted until the conclusion of the first semester. Registrations after this time will only be allowed for students newly enrolled after August. 3.

The deadline for enrollment in the Full Remote Academy is TOMORROW, Monday, August 3 at 11:59pm. This option provides students with continuous remote instruction throughout the school year. The commitment is for at least one semester- students will not be able to switch to an in-person enrollment until the beginning of the second semester. Students who choose this option will remain enrolled at North Mecklenburg. The North Meck Full Remote Academy option provides students with:

  • Fully remote instruction provided by North Mecklenburg teachers
  • In most situations, students will retain their current schedule
  • IB, World Languages, and CTE Technical Institute courses will be taught by North Mecklenburg teachers. Students will not lose their seats in these magnet programs if they choose the Full Remote Academy option.
  • 50% live instruction with North Mecklenburg teachers and 50% independent assignments daily in every class through Canvas.
  • Students will attend classes Monday-Friday on a daily schedule. Attendance will be taken daily in all classes.
  • Students will be able to participate in athletics and clubs based on regular eligibility requirements as these options become available.
  • The website for enrollment and information can be found at https://www.cms.k12.nc.us/News/Pages/FullRemoteAcademyInfo.aspx

IB Programme Update

If you have any questions about IB, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Pasko at amye.strong@cms.k12.nc.us.

Class Schedules and 2nd Semester Eligibility

In the event the state delays all sport seasons until later in the school year resulting in all sport competitions stretching into second semester… (NOTE: this is an IF that were to happen), then all student-athletes (fall, winter & spring sports) would have to be academically eligible in 2nd semester, which is based on their 1st semester coursework.

We always have seniors that sign up for only two (2) courses in the fall semester.  Normally a student who only plays a fall sport (FB, VB, XC, Boys Soccer, Girls Tennis) would be fine doing this.  However, if all sports get moved to the Spring then any student-athlete who is not enrolled in at least 3 semester-long courses will not be eligible to play sports in the 2nd semester. Students must take and pass at least three (3) semester-long courses.

Again, share this information with all applicable school counselors, coaches, senior student-athletes, and families so they can accurately and appropriately advise student-athletes who may desire to play sports this year. We do not want any student-athlete to learn in November or December that they are ineligible to participate because they simply did not enroll in enough courses.

CMS continues to evaluate options for enabling a safe return to athletic activities. We recognize the benefits of athletic participation for student athletes, and it is our desire to have our coaches and student athletes return to preparation and competition when we are confident it is safe and practical to do so.

Student Emails

Parents, please encourage students to check their student email accounts daily. Counselors are starting to finalize schedules and will be communicating any scheduling announcements, etc. via email. Thank you.
