29% OF MASS NURSING HOMES REFUSE PATIENTS WHO’VE USED OPIOIDS, STUDY FINDS

“Twenty-nine percent of nursing facilities in Massachusetts refused to take patients in 2018 who had a history of drug use and needed post-hospital care. The findings are in a study out of Boston Medical Center’s Grayken Center for Addiction. Researchers said they were surprised to see ‘do not take people who use drugs’ or ‘do not accept methadone patients’ in comments explaining why skilled nursing and rehab centers rejected a referral.”

WORKING FROM HOME GIVES MOTHERS NO BREAK

ABOUT COHASSET YOUTH AMBASSADORS PROGRAM:
Cohasset Youth Ambassadors (CYA) is a program under the umbrella of Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition. This youth-led program builds leadership skills, raises awareness around health issues affecting the Cohasset community, and facilitates lasting peer relationships. Open to students grades 7 & up.
This is a great opportunity for students to encourage good choices for their peers, while demonstrating leadership (think college applications). Projects, presentations, health education, community service, while encouraging substance misuse prevention will give participants knowledge and skills for life.

Please join Safe Harbor & Paul Pratt Memorial Library for our International Overdose Awareness Annual Candlelight Vigil Monday, August 31st, 6:45-8pm on Cohasset Common.

Special Guest Speakers Rev. Karen Bailey-Francois, Second Congregational Church, Annemarie Whilton, Chair, Safe Harbor Cohasset Coalition, and Christen Poole, Community Member. Music Performed By Students Lauren Ravanesi & Mateo Reyes.
In preparation for the Vigil, we invite family & friends who have lost loved ones to the disease to send pictures to Nicole Balaschi at nbalaschi@cohassetma.org. We will be displaying them in remembrance at our vigil.
