News from the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

Have you seen the new social justice themed mural on the historic Phoenix Building on Foster Rd? How would YOU like to directly support the three BIPOC artists who gave the community this amazing art? You can!

As this is my first newsletter writing as your new Chair of the neighborhood association, I would like to start off by thanking our outgoing Chair and all-around fantastic, hard-working neighbor, Eric Furlong. Eric has been a long-time board member and has put so much effort into making Foster-Powell an even better place to be! Thankfully for all of us, Eric is remaining on the board and will be focusing his efforts leading the Fundraising Committee.

Speaking of fundraising, we have an ongoing effort to raise funds to support the three BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) artists who painted the new social justice themed mural on the historic Phoenix Pharmacy building. We have not yet raised enough money to a level that is appropriate to compensate these talented artists and would love each of you to become a Supporter. All of your dollars will go directly to these artists.

Please join us for our monthly online meeting this coming Monday 10-August. See below for meeting details, including an agenda. We will be hearing from CNBSeen, a newly forming non-profit, that is creating a program to reduce unnecessary - and potentially deadly - police stops by replacing burnt out taillights. We will also be joined by Jacleen Simons from the American Red Cross to discuss possibly co-hosting a disaster preparedness training, Be Red Cross Ready.

Hope to see you!

Sean McClintock
Chair, Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

Foster-Powell Neighborhood Cleanup
Meet at Kern Park at 10a, SE 67th Ave and Center St (map)
The Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association was contacted by Annie and asked if we would help them organize a cleanup in the neighborhood. We are excited to support Annie in this endeavor! Here is a message from them: My name is Annie, I’m a 16 year old in the neighborhood. I’ve noticed a lot of litter around Foster and Powell, so I decided to do something about it. I’ve organized a neighborhood cleanup for August 9th at 10:00 AM. We will meet at Kern Park on SE Center and 66th and divide up the neighborhood. All you need to bring is yourself and a mask. Everyone is welcome! Invite your friends and family. We will do our best to adhere to social distancing and keep everyone as safe as possible. Thank you for helping me make the neighborhood and cleaner place!
