Kia ora e te whanau, Thank you to our families that took the time to connect at our recent learning centred Conferences. Over 85% of families made appointments on the day, with a further 10% making appointments outside of the day. This is probably one of our best attended Conferencing sessions ever. Making the connections between Mentor, Student and Whanau really does support our young learners on their individual pathways. Last week, we were fortunate to yet again host Pip and Harold on the Life Education Bus for both our school and Tahakopa Primary. The focus of this visit was 'Bodies and Relationships'. The bus is fully equipped with a range of interactive learning opportunities for students across the age range, each junior class had the opportunity to visit at least once. Their visit is a highlight every year! For our older students, Constable Gordon from NZ Police spent a day working with Year 11-13 on the 'Loves me not' programme - an educational experience to help young people understand and navigate healthy and toxic relationships. We hope everyone enjoyed their visits and took away some new learning! Thank you also for your understanding and patience regarding the school driveway. Our Property Advisor visited this week to assess the ongoing damage to the surface, which remains a concern. The project for the new surface is underway with the Ministry, but we are yet to have confirmed dates due to tradesmen availability and appropriate weather conditions. I understand the concerns about the parking opportunities at the top of the driveway and have sought advice from the transport safety officer, who is yet to get back to us. In the mean time a teacher is rostered to the top of the driveway at the end of each school day to support students as they leave school. I have asked the Police to visit me as soon as they are able to provide parking advice which adheres to NZTA requirements around the signposted clearway on Stuart Street. In coming weeks, we'll see some changes to the teachers in Rooms 3 and 19. Maree Parker will be working with Room 19 as their full-time teacher until the end of the year. She will pass her responsibilities as classroom release teacher of Room 3 to Caro Bopp. Mrs Bopp will be taking on some specialist teaching opportunities in our middle/senior school as an extension to her SENCo role, whilst continuing her work as Across School Teacher for the Big River Kahui Ako (Community of Learning). A letter has been sent home with each Room 19 student with further details of the change. We wish both Maree and Caro well for their new classroom responsibilities. On the topic of the Parker family - we also had the pleasure of welcoming Harriet Parker as a new entrant last week. Welcome to full time learning Harriet - we look forward to sharing your learning journey with you! Welcome as well to our new Relief Teacher Aide - Robyn Lietze.
