Congratulating NVJS Authors
Disruptions and uncertain times continue, so we're glad to have good news to share. Publication of NVJS 12 is just around the corner, and we look forward to welcoming TEN new authors to the NVJS family. Take a sneak peek at one of the forthcoming articles below.

As we put the finishing touches to NVJS 12, we'd also like to take a moment to celebrate the recent achievements of some of our alumni. NVJS is a starting block of sorts for emerging researchers, and we love watching them move on to bigger and better things

NVJS 12 Preview: Kawaii Fashion
Coming out later this month, NVJS 12 features five papers and five reviews covering subjects such as immigration, citizenship, literature, popular culture and more.

Today, we're delighted to present an excerpt from one paper by Megan Rose from UNSW Sydney, whose research challenges perceptions of Harajuku-style kawaii fashion as a childish practice. Rose's paper responds to an ever-popular article from Volume 4 of our back catalogue, and we're proud to be able to support this scholarly conversation between NVJS authors in our upcoming volume.

NVJS Alumni Publications
Many of our authors' NVJS articles represent their first or near-first academic publishing experiences, so it's always exciting to see the work our alumni go on to produce. We'd like to congratulate Machiko Ishikawa (NV 5), Anne Lee (NVJS 8), Toshiyuki Nakamura (NVJS 7) and Sonja Petrovic (NVJS 11) on their most recent publications.

Academic Appointments for NVJS Alumni
Over recent months we've had some more great news: a number of NVJS alumni have been newly appointed to academic positions. These are exciting achievements, and we hope you'll join us in congratulating these past authors:
  • Geraldine Carney (NVJS 8), now a Research Assistant at The University of Melbourne's Asian Law Centre,
  • Levi Durbidge (NVJS 11), now a lecturer at The University of the Sunshine Coast,
  • Gwyn McClelland (NVJS 11), now a lecturer at The University of New England, and
  • Toshiyuki Nakamura (NVJS 7), now a lecturer at Australian National University
