THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

MCF family and friends,

There are times when another person's words speak exactly what you are wanting to say, and what better words to claim than those from scripture. I find myself in that situation in response to the outpouring of support for MCF’s finances over the past month.  In Paul’s second letter to the Christians at Corinth, he writes (and I would like to say)…

9 I really don’t need to write to you about this ministry of giving for the believers in Jerusalem (think the ministry of MCF here).  2 For I know how eager you are to help, and I have been boasting to the churches in Macedonia (think the current MCF students) that you in Greece were ready to send an offering a year ago. In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving.

3 But I am sending these brothers to be sure you really are ready, as I have been telling them, and that your money is all collected. I don’t want to be wrong in my boasting about you. 4 We would be embarrassed—not to mention your own embarrassment—if some Macedonian believers came with me and found that you weren’t ready after all I had told them! 5 So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.

6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”  8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 9 As the Scriptures say,

“They share freely and give generously to the poor.

Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”

10 For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.

11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 12 So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.

13 As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. 14 And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. 15 Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!

MCF PROJECTS UPDATE
AS OF 8/7/2020

MCF folk, attached are three photos showing the worksite as it looks this afternoon.

The contractor has finished his work at Whitnah House. We still need to seed & cover. You can see the pump shaft at the corner, and the sump pump outlet pipe just beneath the gutter at the steps. We don't have an invoice yet, but he did tell me that the plumber charged some $1600 for the new water line and the small amount of work he did on the sewer line. He also replaced the old faucet on the side of the house.....but I was surprised at how much that cost us. I expect to see a bit of over-run on the contractor's part, too, since he had to install the sump pump. But the basement is dry!

A second photo shows the front yard at Whitnah House. It's going to need some smoothing and seeding, too.

The third photo shows the progress on the back porch project at the Campus House. It's a good solid foundation, and the landing will go up from there.

CODY ROGERS, NLS INTERN

MCF has a mission statement that I have experienced first hand:  to share real transformed life in Jesus.

While working as a Murray State NLS Intern for MCF, I have had valuable experiences and developed meaningful relationships.  Mike and Larry Call have served as great mentors towards me, helping me understand how a Christian nonprofit works.  Mike has helped me to see the importance of Jesus in all the things that go on at MCF.  He required me to read In the Name of Jesus by Henri Nouwen to help me understand the reasons why MCF centers on Jesus in all that happens.  I have grown a lot in my Christian faith as well as being shown how a Faith-based NonProfit operates.

Like most Nonprofits, resources are limited, so volunteer help and donated supplies are much needed AND appreciated.  Larry Call has shown me both of these qualities.  As a retired military chaplain, he volunteers his service to MCF.  And that’s not all; if you know Larry, he also generously donates materials … lots and lots of materials he has … let’s say, kept lying around.  Both his service and the materials are generously given to MCF.

This attitude of generosity leads me to another project I have enjoyed working on: the Phone-A-Thanks (a unique fundraising effort centered on expressing gratitude for gifts already given so that the ‘partners’ generosity may continue).  I’m blown away at how quickly and how much the MCF family and friends give.

I am grateful to have been able to continue developing skills while doing projects at the MCF house.  This NonProfit Internship has been a great experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Due to the COVID 19 influence on the MSU guidelines, there will be NO formal Homecoming gathering for 2020.

We thank you for your continued financial and prayerful support!
