NEWS, News, News
What's the news from your neck of the woods? Send your stories to Kerry at smithkp@auburn.edu. The deadline is the 20th of each month. Word count preference is 200-250 words. Photo's are appreciated!
What creative programs are you doing with your Extension Agent? I heard some interesting buzz from the Montgomery metro area.
- Are you still sewing face masks? How many from your MGA?
- Growing and giving produce? Supporting a community garden for charity? Report your total giving to date.
- ETC!
Master Gardener stories are the BEST.
Thank you, Kerry Smith

Sharing Their Passion for Gardening!
Dealing with the Covid-19 crisis is still a huge factor in the life of BCMG, our board is encouraging members to participate in several new opportunities.
One is a request to think about personal gardening observations, gardening tips or recipes, or anything else related to the enjoyment of nature. They write a brief, 100-200-word article to be shared in our newsletter, Grassroots. For example, Luanne Matson from Magnolia Springs, has recently submitted “Tips on Flower Arranging and Care. We hope to eventually initiate a weekly blog to share these helpful suggestions with the public.
We are also encouraging our members to invite others (10 persons or less) to share in a mini-tour of their home gardens or a public garden. All required Covid precautions will be observed. Gerry Lester, our Vice-President, recently invited seven 2020 interns and several MGs to visit her lovely yard in Magnolia Springs. Gerry identified numerous native plants that she planted to transform a neglected yard into a beautiful collection of plants and hardscapes. Of especial interest was her transformation of a roofless, abandoned garage (with Clay City tile from an old Baldwin Pottery). She made this into a peaceful and attractive outdoor sitting area. Gerry topped off the outing with touring the group at the Magnolia Springs Arboretum, a wonderful project established by the Magnolia Springs Garden Club.

Are you growing a home vegetable garden? More beans or zucchini than you can eat? Donate your extras to a local food charity, a neighbor in need, or someone who thinks they don't like green beans. Fresh tastes better!
Don't have a veggie garden? How about growing transplants and donating those? Teach someone else how to grow their own garden or donate transplants to a community garden. You can support the Grow More, Give More project in numerous ways. Every time you donate your time, harvested vegetables or transplants, report your volunteer hours and note the number or pounds you donated. Reported to date, your statewide total is almost 10,000 pounds!
Along with researchers at Texas A&M University and the University of Florida, Auburn University is conducting research to gauge the public’s beliefs about integrated pest management, their pest management practices, and how their beliefs influence consumer behavior regarding home pest control. The lead researcher on the survey is Janet Hurley at Texas A&M University.
This is a national survey contributing important information to consumer research and is easy to complete using a mobile device. Your participation is completely voluntary. Take this survey: https://agrilife.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aben4hZHyZraFXT
Spread the word too! Please pass this on to friends, coworkers, family members, or anyone who would be interested in giving their opinion on home pest control.
EARN ONE HALF OF A VOLUNTEER HOUR (0.5) for answering this survey. That's right, spend just 15 minutes of your time, maybe less, and earn half a volunteer hour!
