Hello friends--

A couple days after I returned to Sofia for a few weeks, we had the worst storm--ever, one of my neighbors said. Weird soft hail that fell like snow. Water dripping from the ceiling on to my bed--never a good thing. Water creeping across floor of another room, coming from who knows where. "From who knows where" because then the electricity went out, and it became mopping by candlelight.

No one answered the door when I ran up one floor and rang the bell over and over. I called the owner/dad, and he and his son arrived in record time. The snowy hail had plugged up the drain in their terrace, which is directly above
about a quarter of my apartment. The son called later and said when they arrived there was 10 centimeters (about 4 inches) of water in their terrace-turned-wading pool.

On the balcony on the other side of the apartment, the east side, were the onions and garlic I had just brought back to fill orders from neighbors and friends. The garlic just got a little wet, and the next day I spread it out in the sun to completely dry.

How many times have I thought, "What would have happened if I were still in Sliven?" Well, the neighbor below me is out of the country, so elderly woman on the second floor probably would have been the the first to notice water seeping into her ceiling. For those of you who pray for me and for our work in Bulgaria--thank you!

On Monday I'll be returning to Sliven to join Raina, our worker Zlatko, and probably Raina's mother in harvesting beans and potatoes. I will let you know if there is any news concerning Zlatko's mother, whom I asked you to pray for a couple weeks ago.

Many thanks!
