COUNCIL MEETINGS- REGULATIONS UPDATE
As promised in our last newsletter, the government has now made its amendments so that parish meetings are included within updated 2020 meetings regulations, and so can now legally meet remotely. We are now making sure that PKF Littlejohn are aware of the change. Other changes are that the requirement for parish councils to hold an annual meeting in each year has been disapplied for now, together with the requirement to fix a physical notice of meetings, if full details are provided on your website.
UPCOMING TRAINING
In response to demand, we have scheduled a series of four Planning webinars, provided in partnership with our Suffolk ALC colleagues, covering different aspects of this important topic. These are being delivered by our new legal partners, Birketts, and will be presented by Tom Newcombe who is their lead partner on planning. These are going to be highly popular, and really useful, so early booking is advised. Details and timings (from 26 August) can be viewed, and bookings made, at https://www.salc.org.uk/planningprocessesandprocedures/
We are also running two free Risk Management webinars, on 28 September and 19 October, in partnership with BHIB Insurance Brokers. These will be presented by their Risk Manager, Brian Brookes, who is the ex-Head of Insurance at Leicester City Council, and is a great presenter. These will help you understand risk assessments, including additional requirements following the pandemic. Again, early booking is advised. More details and booking are available in the Calendar
The are many further training opportunities listed within our training calendar for September onwards.
POLICE LIAISON MEETINGS FOR TOWN AND PARISH COUNCILS
We are putting in place a series of monthly liaison meetings involving the Police and Crime Commissioner, the Chief Constable and other staff – the first one will be for the Kings Lynn and West Norfolk area, and will probably take place on 15 September. Details of how to join this event will follow soon once confirmed. Councillors and council staff will all be welcome.
GREAT BRITISH SEPTEMBER CLEAN
A re-arranged Great British September Clean on 11-27 September 2020 is now being planned nationally as a replacement for the cancelled Spring event, but also adhering to latest guidance in relation to Covid 19. Great British Clean up - Guide for Hosts
