Dear <<First Name>>,

It is now summer recess and I am back in Broxtowe making plans for what I hope will be a positive and busy summer! I have been reflecting on my first seven months as an MP and - as I am sure you can all imagine - it has certainly been different to what any of us thought in December. However, I have really enjoyed getting stuck into the role, helping as many constituents as possible and representing Broxtowe in Parliament. Owing to COVID-19, this has been the busiest and most varied period for MPs. My team and I have worked through nearly 6000 cases this year and we will continue to work hard over the summer to ensure you are getting the support you need, so please do not hesitate to contact me.

I was incredibly proud this week to have been elected as the Co-Chair of the Midlands Engine All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). As I said last week, I want the best for our region and am keen to attract investment and opportunities to the East Midlands, in particular. This role will give me the chance to champion the needs of Broxtowe, and the region, to Parliamentarians, the Government and businesses and ensure we are not left behind in the COVID-19 recovery. To read more about the work of the Midlands Engine please visit this link.

The Government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme is launching very soon too! If you are a local restaurant, you can sign up here. If, like me, you are looking forward to supporting local restaurants please check this link on 31st July 2020 for a list of all local restaurants that have signed up.

With all the trips to local pubs and restaurants we have planned, it is important that we keep fit over summer too.  I have noticed that cycling is becoming more popular as both a form of leisure and commuting. This week, I spoke to local cycle shops that have been running low on stock due to a surge in demand as people donned a helmet and cycled for the first time, by themselves or with their families. This is something to be welcomed as cycling is a fantastic way to explore Broxtowe and the surrounding areas in an environmentally friendly way while improving physical health, mental health and having fun! There are many existing initiatives that people interested in cycling can take advantage of which are outlined on my website. Given the significant interest in cycling, I would really appreciate it if you could fill in the short survey online to help me gauge your opinion on how to improve access to cycling in Broxtowe. Whether you are a professional cyclist, or someone that purchased a bicycle for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, please do let me know your thoughts and share the survey with people you know.

If, however, cycling is not your cup of tea there are plenty of other ways to keep fit. With gyms and swimming pools reopening from tomorrow you can exercise indoors, or take advantage of the summer sun and go for walks and runs. Whatever your preferred method, please do remember to spend some time exercising as this will bring excellent benefits for your health. You can visit the official NHS website for ideas, tips and tricks. If you come across an excellent running route or know of a local fitness class you would recommend, do get in touch and I will share on my social media so even more people can benefit.

As ever, if I can help you over summer, please do get in touch.  I hope to see many of you out in the community over the next month and am looking forward to enjoying my summer in Broxtowe safely.

Darren
