COVID-19 Updates for Santa Clara County

Dear Neighbors,
This past Thursday, Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force raised concerns about COVID-19 in 11 cities, including the City of San José. Our county, which includes the City of San José, has seen an increase in case counts recently. However, our numbers remain much lower than those of most metropolitan areas in the state and the country.
We are concerned about the increase in cases nationally and believe that this highlights the need for a coordinated national approach to address this pandemic, something the President has failed to put into effect. We call upon the Trump Administration to finally implement the national strategy our nation needs to contain COVID-19.
If you test positive for COVID-19 or you are exposed to someone who tested positive, you will receive a call from the California COVID Team. It is important that we each make it a habit to answer the phone because it could be lifesaving.

We released a new dashboard on hospital capacity this week. This dashboard will provide additional information on the number of patients in general acute care hospitals within the county, as well as the number and percent of all beds that are available.

Do not forget to look for the new checkmark dated July 2 before entering a business. If the checkmark is not displayed, the business may not be enforcing Social Distancing Protocols. You can also report businesses that are not in compliance.

This is not about dying versus living. Do not gamble with COVID. If you get the virus and survive, we still do not know if you could suffer long term health problems down the road. Talk to your family about properly wearing a face covering and keeping a distance.
